Hi Proficience, where in Sydney are you?

Mine has had a ticking / popping / clicking noise in the back for a while. It started with an every now and then little tick but got progressively worse. At the 15k service i asked them too look into it. Got the car back with some interior clip replaced and that was to fix it. NOT.... a few days later my car was back at pennant hills toyota. Another drive with another "specialist" who easily reproduced it. They did something because the noise is almost gone. It has to go back this monday gor a two day "session" where they will remove all soets of trim to get to the problem. I hope that fixes it once and for all.

Great news! TSB for Subaru just was released, which shows the exact spots to spray the lube. I'll be updating my first post with it.

My fr-s is in the shop right now getting a new ECU to fix the vvti engine light and rough idle issue. Next week I have to go back to the dealership to have a Toyota factory rep look at this rattling issue. My fr-s makes a metallic rattling sound best heard at highway speeds coming from what sounds like the right rear of the vehicle. I love this car, I just hope they can get this stuff fixed!

Thanks for the info OP - I have found TSBs for all potential issues that may or may not apply to my car and will be taking the info with me for my first service (will actually call ahead to warn them of the TSBs).

I'm still in disbelief that the official Subaru fix for this issue comes down to a hammer and WD-40! Is this the Red Green show?

If it was the Red Green show, duct tape would have been the fix.....

I took mine into a local Toyota dealership on Saturday for a TPMS fix and had them look into the rear deck noise as well. I showed them the Subaru TSB and they acted like they had no idea or had ever dealt with this issue. They had the shop foreman go on a drive with me and sure enough I was able to replicate the noise. He noted the noise(s) and said that he had to contact Toyota to see how to proceed but that he would bring up the TSB. He also said that they could try to fix based on the TSB but that they also had to order the "special" grease as noted in the TSB. So, I will be bringing it back when they have the grease on hand.

When I left the shop, I noticed a new noise. When I make sharp turns or go up/down sharp inclines, there is a loose screw or rolling ball noise either coming from my passenger side door or in the floor below the carpet. Haven't been able to pinpoint it. I will try taking off the door panel during Thanksgiving to see if I can find anything in there. Weird. Drives me crazy though.

My experience with the rattle is a little unusual. I had it from day one and went into my dealership with the problem a little over a month ago. They told me that Toyota was aware of the problem and there would be a TSB out within several weeks addressing the problem. I did the lithium bit and it seemed to work for a day or two. A few days later I did the WD 40 and it worked for a while longer but the rattle came back. Today I have over 3,300 miles on the car and the noise has disappeared all on its own. I haven't called the dealership back for a follow up because I no longer have the problem.

'Tis a mystery.
