I am not to sure on the exact hardware, something more modernish, and with 2.1 or higher i would say.

I bought a Nexus 7 for this, nice 7in screen which is big enough for quick glances while driving, also can use it for maps/nav and for music.
and fairly cheap too!

I have had Torque Pro for awhile, just haven't gotten around to getting a BT adapter. Now that I know it works, I need to get off my lazy ass.

Any particular brands for BT OBDII adapters I should be looking at?

Mine did that the first time I put it in the FRS, but never did it afterwards. I think I just didn't have it solidly connected. Definitely need to get one of the smaller ones that have been showing up lately.

Is the one in your post the one that didn't work?

I can confirm that USB OBDII connectors work just fine as well.

I left it connected all day today while driving, and about 3 hours later, I was able to communicate. I disconnected it and re-connected it multiple times, until it was able to work... NO CLUE.

Word of warning to people looking at this:
I don't have an FRS/BRZ but I bought one of these for 11 dollars off Ebay. It works, but the refresh rate is about 0.5Hz, so if you want to have nice gauges to look at on your phone/tablet, probably should find something known to be a little faster.
