Is this only specific to FWD drivers or this is applicable more generally. I would like to understand the correct way of driving in either FWD or RWD cars.

May I ask if you have ever tried this in a snowed road on a turn? Being in Canada we have the honor of experiencing snow driving every winter, what I found out when turn-in too fast and understeer, turning more in a FWD does not help you turn because there is no traction. In fact, your car just skid to stop on the tangent when you lost traction with wheel turned. The proper way, as taught in the driver's manual and training, is to straighten the steering wheel and brake lightly to gain traction, and then turn wider once you gain traction.

With my FWD cars I accelerate to stop the snap oversteer Like here:
Dave, was that filmed at the Road Atlanta course because I just ran some races at that course in Forza 4. Beautiful course, though. And nice recovery on that snap-oversteer in a FWD car.

Yeap. Works only in deep snow.

Yes, in all drivelines you need to get back within the traction circle. We've really only addressed too much speed as a cause, other causes in FWD/AWD can be too much power going to the front and causing an understeer condition that way (wheelspin creating a loss of traction), in that case you simply lift off the throttle gently until traction is returned.. and then hopefully learn throttle control

That is in Georgia, but that's Roebling Road Raceway near Savannah.

Here's a full lap from the same day, hopefully this URL will prevent embedding (trying to avoid embedding non-BRZ/FRS videos ):

How deep the snow are we talking about here?

I was pretty shocked at how slow most folks in Seattle were driving in the rain. Was there in May during a good storm and found I was driving faster then the majority, and I was doing the speed limit in a Passat rental car. And half the cars on the road are friggen Subis.

Required depth is a non-linear function of how wet/heavy the snow is. Do you want the formula now, lol?

Yeah. And I thought people here (I'm also SoCal) suck at driving in the rain, and most of them are just in FWD/RWD cars.

I would kill myself if we had seasonal rains here in Houston. People are idiots, the water table is high, and there is virtually no drainage system. And when it rains, it doesn't pour, it floods.

I put mine away because Minnesota salts the sh*t out of the roads in the winter. Which they will be starting very soon, sadly.

Not to mention if you don't get a lot of yearly rain the roads will release the oil it's soaked up and become slippery.

My girlfriend is from Minnesota, so I know what you're talking about. She had a Pontiac there that she drove here (SoCal) when she moved in 2008, and I think that her control arm snapped in 2010.

Ironically, her best friend (who I believe currently lives in Minneapolis as well) had the same issue with her Honda Civic within the past few days, but a little worse.

Yeah, a lot of them in SoCal do suck in the rain. Add in the occasional snow we get up here and it all goes to hell. These people are totally clueless. I usually leave the car at home during those periods and drive the truck, mainly as a defensive measure.

The BRZ survived the first major rain over here (same rain at the end of the epic SF Giants game). Nothing the traction control couldn't handle. I think the only time I felt it kick in (and briefly saw the lights flashing) was when I was trying to hop on the freeway, and even with that, I only felt the rear slide slightly and intuitively gently counter-steered with out thinking much of it.
