I'm pretty sure this is just the new WRX motor. Been posted a bunch of times.

If a turbo BRZ ever does get into production years from now, I just might have to get one. Though, for now, my N/A BRZ puts a smile on my face every day.

I hope to god they don't turbo the BRZ. High revving NAs are better for a sportscar this lightweight. Sportscars don't need torque. High RPMs for the win!

That is what I came here to post. They aren't making it, they already have and it's already inside a vehicle they sell. Poor researching on behalf of the reporter, go figure.

Am I the only one who wants the next BRZ/86/FRS to just have an even higher revving NA engine to produce more power?

Did anyone else read the original article that everyone is posting?

http://www.autonews.com/apps/pbcs.dl...utonews-weekly

I never heard of these guys before and other articles on the site are as amateurish as the sti article. "Sources say"? What is this, fox news?

Either way, Subaru will release a sti version with more power eventually. This should be a really safe bet.

Hey as long as this turbo engine from the Leg/WRX swaps in painlessly, I'm cool with it

Just sayin' it isn't necessarily stupid to announce a turbo early on because Hyundai (who has had very smart/successful marketing relative all other car companies as of late) did exactly that.

What would look stupid is making the Toyota and Subaru chief engineers and STI president go back on their official words. Toyota did officially announce a convertible 86 very early on without fear of it hurting launch sales. If any model variation were to be released, that would be it.

Yep the car's a little light on torque, but if you're willing to run the engine hard and downshift, it's got about the right amount of power for "spirited" daily driving and fun on backroads.

Eh your math is a bit off.

Saleen S7 = 2750 lbs / 750 hp = 3.7 lbs/hp
CGT = 3000 lbs / 612 hp = 4.9 lbs/hp
599 = 3721 lbs / 612 hp = 6.08 lbs/hp
SLR Mclaren = 3900 lbs / 619 hp = 6.3 lbs/hp

BRZ-T = 2800 lbs / 280 hp = 10.0 lbs/hp

So the BRZ-T wouldn't be anywhere near supercar power-to-weight, closer to 370z actually:

370z = 3232 lbs / 332 hp = 9.7 lbs/hp
Nope. My HP/Weight numbers might be a bit off. But my math is pretty spot on. We're saying the same thing just in different ways.
Saleen S7 = .254 X 2,750 = 700hp
Carrera GT = .198 X 3,000 = 594hp
599 = .166 X 3721 = 617hp
SLR McLaren = .164 X 3900 = 639hp

STi BRZ = .1 X 2800 = 280

I doubt subaru will release a STi version that could par up to 280hp and 250 tq, unless it was truley FI or a different engine.

Maybe a bit more power than the N/A model now.
