Funny that. I work in IT as a Network/Sys Admin.

Nice to meet ya @Skorov LOL ...
Just got off the phone with a sys admin who has no interest in technology either.

I want a head unit that runs decent nav, Torque, email and does full voice control.

Yea. Software Engineer. =)

Getting back on topic, who can recommend a HU they have recently bought. With good BT connectivity, good nav, smooth UI, usb audio playback and the ability to seek through a track using the progress bar.

Just spoke to local Toyota parts dept.
They receive all their map updates on DVD from Whereis.
Their latest version they have is v.18
The cost of updating to this is.....$325.60
I am waiting for them to contact me back in regards to whether I am entitled to a free copy of this.
Will let you know how I go

So far same results. I definitely don't want to mess with the original.

Just got a call back from the parts dept.
They haven't got a clue in regards to the 86 head unit (their words not mine). The guy wasn't even sure that the DVD would work seeing as we have the SD card.
I have emailed Toyota again.
Lets see what BS TMCA have this time.

That's what I thought. The DVD ones either update the internal flash memory with the new maps or use a second DVD "slot" just for the maps.

Our maps are stored on the SD card so it makes no sense to use a DVD.

We're working on it. Will update this evening when I've had a chance to play with the SD card.
