GTS GPS maps out of date.

I was driving around Point Cook yesterday and found many of the streets don't exist on the map. Does anyone know how to update the maps?

I would also like to know. It's missing some of the newer Safety Cameras as well.

I contacted Toyota the other day about this.
Their response was:

Thank you for your email, please contact your local Toyota Dealership via their service department for information sat nav updates, these software updates are not covered by Toyota.

Thank you for contacting Toyota Customer Experience Centre

Kind Regards,

So contact your Toyota Service Dept about something that aren't covered by Toyota. Makes sense. Not got around to contacting service dept. yet.

You did it wrong! The nav system is pioneer AVIC-F840BT, unfortunately the .au site only offers support in the form of a pdf manual.

Where as the .eu site has firmware updates etc.

So you probably really need to get Toyota involved

I took out my Manual and flicked it through. the maps are made by NAVTEQ. Which are the same developers that made maps called 'iGO' and 'NAVMAN' for my previous car (Suzuki Swift).

hope that helps :D now to look for updated maps :search::sigh:

Sorry got confused seems there's a heap of different types depending on region, thought the BRZ/GTS had the same but again it varies.

I had a quick play today, couldn't even duplicate the original Toyota SD card that it came with....

"other means" don't look great

70NYD 10-20-2012 05:45 AM

If maps are made same for navmen, means they would more that likely be same format.
See if I had a GTS I would do this for you, probably in a day, but since I don't, all you get is my thought process in how I would get to the answer
Now if you find that format and get a new map, stick it on a sd card, and put it in to the nav unit, there has to be a map slot somewhere ;) if not there is map update option somewhere in software using the standard sd/USB slot. It's either that or it takes maps of the DVD/cd (less likely as this is old method circa 05~)
There has to be a way to update maps, be it under setting in the unit, or starting the unit in update mode. I can't test any of this, but the method has to be simple, remember, dealerships have to do this so it has to be doable by a 10 year old :p

Edit
So there is a SD card slot!
What you mean you couldn't duplicate it?
Did you view it on the pc with view hidden files/folders? There will be a file/cluster that id's it

crimespree 10-20-2012 05:52 AM

Mate I don't even have my 86 yet!
The unit seems to read directly from the sd card. To update maps you just put in a new sd card.
Somehow it knows the duplicated card is a copy and won't boot. The copy has the same files and structure as the original.
Must have some form of protection....
I even tried dumping new 2012 iGo maps onto the copied card (folder structure matched) but still didn't work.
I'm not game to mess with with the original toyota sd card...
