Sorry it happened, but on the bright side, props for being one of the first few to have a blown engine on this car! :happy0180:
Just glad to hear Scion/Toyota is taking care of it. It might just be a defect in manufacturing. It does happen to all car manufacturers. |

Do Subarus/Scions have partial VIN's etched into the engine block like domestic cars for anti theft purposes, and if so who records the new engine number to your car. Just thinking of future collectible with numbers matching , hmmm.

When I put a stroker engine in the Harley, they made me go to DMV (California) to pick up paperwork, then I had to go to CHP and have them look over the bike, sign my papers, then send papers back to DMV. New title appeared within 2 weeks. Most car people don't do it, worry about it, but I'd imagine that the process was the same.

As to the cause of engine failure of this magnitude. Could be a timing chain issue since dealer said it was head related. Could be an oiling issue. Could be the CAI. Could be the undamped pulley. Most likely culprit is some kind of contaminate got in an oil passage and starved a bearing and BLAM! Last edited by FirestormFRS; 10-21-2012 at 05:58 AM. Reason: Adding my uninformed reason for the engine blow up |

Got my car back Saturday! Yay thanks to Longo & Scion for getting done reasonably quick. They even reinstalled a new pulley and kept existing on the old engine for testing.
Service tech wouldn't tell me what happened but some other workers mentioned a problem with a rocker in the can shaft. Made a hole in the engine. Back on the road, if hear anything new I will post up more info. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2 |

My Toyota dealer would be mad if they notcied i had an intake and lw pulley installed. Even if that not would be the cause of engine failure, im 100% sure they would bitch about it and cause me a lot of trouble and extra work
Cudos to your dealer there!
