What he means is that gasoline is a commodity, a standard mixture of short and medium-chain hydrocarbons (such as octane, septane etc..) that is liquid in our celestial temperature range and that retains a high vapor pressure. The difference in gasolines at the pump is all due to additives that each company adds to the blend. A cheaper gasoline generally has less additives. The additives are valuable enough, that the major automakers developed the Top Tier standard of gasoline that is certified to have a high level of additives.

I actually don't like to fill at Shell anymore ..
I found Chevron and Mobil to be great for this car.
I will fill at 76 or Shell if I'm not in Orange County ..
If I have to I'll fill at ARCO but I try to avoid them ..

My area has:
Chevron
Shell
Costco
Arco
Mobil
7-11
76
a few privately owned family gas stations (best for me to stay away from these? i.e. Bob's Gas in Oceanside,CA)

I will try to hit up these stations as my tank empties and maybe do a report. I am in the SD,CA north county area if that'll help demographics. May take a while cause I don't drive it like a commuter car and therefore do not need to fill up very often. However, We should make a list of brand stations, or is that a moot point since it could be a fluke?
did you get yours at the Carlsbad dealer?

Not really related to the topic at hand but I am from the Carlsbad area. Moved to NC over 9 years ago. I miss the open roads and fun drive up to cloud croft and down towards las cruces.

I ordered one from there, the base model. But found one at the Tustin dealership, picked it up the same day they contacted me.

EDIT: filed up at Chevron today when the tank was 1/4 full. Seems to be fine so far. No sputters nor hiccups.

FR-S may be very sensitive to bad gas.

If (Fuel != "Chevron")
Crickets.Enabled = true;

Funny, sorting through this thread.

I went from filling up with 93 Mobile, then 93 Marathon, then to 93 Citgo and recently to 93 Shell.

Even though Shell is the most expensive in my area, it tends to perform better than the others, even minimizing crickets.

As I understand it, the "crickets" are sounds produced in many of the FR-S/BRZs caused by the high pressure fuel pump (HPFP).

I'm told they sound like crickets chirping.

Most attribute the happening to the ethonol blended gasoline.
