I filled up with Shell 93 the other day. For some reason, when I filled up on 91 Kroger gas, it felt like my car ran better o.0

I don't think it has anything to do with the fact the type of fuel system on the car, more that we have high compression and the ECU is going to tweak everything down to prevent detonation when you get low quality fuel.

I've been having luck so far with the gas from Petro-Canada, I received 350 $ of gas card from my dealer so I kind have to go there…will probably still go there after just to be sure!

Unfortunately sunoco stopped selling their 94 around here years ago.I can sometimes find 93 and there is always 92, but i have noticed that different tanks of fuel do have an effect on how the engine performs.

i have had good luck with Sunoco 93 and marathon 93.Sheetz,Speedway and True north/BP have had negative effects on drive ability for me.

As a rule of thumb regardless of timing,i have always went by compression ratio

naturally aspirated engines 10.5.1 up to 11.5.1 minimum 93
naturally aspirated engines 9.0.1 to 10.5.1 minimum of 91
naturally aspirated engines 7.5.1 to 8.5.1 minimum of 87

I would run nothing but 94 on my FRS if it was available around here.

Direct Injection in general is very fuel sensitive. If I put shitty fuel in my MKV GTI (which was DI) it would throw a CEL.

These rules are not universally applicable anymore. The wider use of direct injection along with computerized modeling of the combustion chamber has made engines far more resistant to knock. The Mazda Skyactiv is an engine with a 12:5 compression ratio that runs on regular gas.

Petro-Canada is a Top-Tier supplier.

All gasoline is produced to same standards and is no different for station to station. I work at a refinery trust me.

If your area has nice cars, see if you can notice a trend of them being at certain stations. For example, the one I go to will usually have a Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Lotus, etc. there every other time I fill up. That is typically a good sign, especially if they're gear heads (which you can find out if you strike up a conversation with them).

But don't the individual gas stations place their own additives and detergents to the gas? Shell will tell you in their commercials that they have better gas because of what they've added to it.

They all have their own additives that the truckers add to fuel gas mix when loading trucks, but they are all basically the same detregents. we supply shell, and a bunch of others.. cant remember off top of head. I think it is crazy for them to advertise gas is better from on place to another after seeing the process first hand.lol

Dont get me wrong not saying every gas station is equal, cause they are not. but the gas they are sold is all the same.

So is the cash only gas station in the less wealthy part of town that has pretty cheap gas the same as the exon on the local highway?
