I just took my FR-S into the dealership in Puyallup last night... This past weekend I got the CEL and SL. Car has been idling rough for a little while, but I wasn't really aware that it was a serious issue until my car died at a stoplight the other day :/

Dealership calls me today and says that they "cleared the CEL codes" and now everything looks like it's running great!... I asked them what they did to fix it and they said nothing, they just removed the codes and now it seems to be running properly. I called SoA and my rep there contacted my dealership and instructed them to keep the car and look further into the issue. I have a bad feeling about this... the dealership wanted to simply ignore the codes and let me go on my way....

I wouldn't let any untrained mechanic replace cam gears!

I would also have refused what you were offered after a catastrophic engine failure. Is there anything they could have offered you which would have made you keep the car?

My car has been in the shop since Wednesday. CEL for codes P0011 and P0016. Supposedly they are having parts overnighted that should be here tomorrow. Replacing whatever it is, and then calling me Monday or Tuesday.

How long did you guys wait before asking for compensation? How'd you even bring it up? should I mention other's that have bought the FR-S are being compensated by other dealers if my car remains in the shop longer?

edit: Also, car only had 779 miles on it when I dropped it off. Had CEL since 120 miles.

Personally I think if your car is in the shop for just a few days, and the dealer is actually trying to fix it quickly (i.e. overnighting parts, setting you up with a rental, etc.), you have no right to ask for compensation. Issues arise with all cars that cause the car to be out of service for a few days on occasion. Now, if your car is at the dealer for weeks then that's a different story.

^ This.

Sorry, but some of you guys are being a bit ridiculous. Just my opinion.

Shit breaks...even new shit. Maybe once it gets ridiculous, but as said above, if they're honestly trying to fix it, you aren't entitled to anything. That's what a warranty is for - you get free work and free parts...that's your compensation.

Don't accept it back without a reflash. I tried resetting my CEL a couple of times on my own and it ALWAYS came back within a few days. Your dealership is not taking the issue seriously enough, and you'll just end up bringing your car back in again. It really annoys me when dealerships don't respect customers' time or investigate the problem thoroughly on their own.

If I am reading the Texas law correctly if the Dealer gives you a loaner car the days do not count against the 30 day period that the car was in the shop.

Quick question for those that were out 20+ business days and received compensation payments...

How long did it take for you guys receive this check/payment? I contacted them today and they said expedited it takes 2-5 weeks, or 7-10 weeks not expedited... I'm assuming at these rates they get the request, stick it somewhere, and wait 3-5 weeks pick it up... process it in a day and ship it out with shipping taking 2-3 days lmao

An attorney friend says differently, and I verified it through a third party this week. It reads that way, I agree. I have nothing to go on but these two discussions though, so I could very well be wrong.

Update: I accepted Scion`s offer of 7 year extended warranty and 250 gift card for 40 days of my car in the shop for VVTI repair and new ECU. I asked about how long my car would be covered he said the extended warranty would be concurrent with the orginal 3 year warranty so really only 7 years of coverage. I was hesitant about taking it but just wanted to be done with all the BS and enjoy my car. I also have rest of the first warranty year to excersise lemon law.

Wow its amazing you guys get compensation. Over here I had eight visits to a bmw garage for the same issue and it still wasn't fixed, ending up selling the car at a massive loss. Other dealers kerbing wheels, knocking geos out, putting miles on cars and zero chance of any compensation, in fact I had to fix the kerbed wheel and get geos done myself. In this country they don't walk around the car with you to check for damage when you leave it with them, so if its damaged when you pick it up its your damage.
