Some FYI for buying out of state. I bought mine from Oregon and had it shipped. This was the second car I have purchased from out of state. The process is pretty simple and shouldn't vary much from dealership to dealership. Place an order for the car. Once it arrives, the dealership will prepare the paperwork and ship it to you. Complete it, ship it back, and once the dealership processes it, the car will be shipped to you or you can go there to pick it up.

Taxes: you pay California's sales tax on the car. On the paperwork presented to the DMV, there is a line indicating how much tax you have paid on the car. You will pay the difference required, if any, to the correct amount. Dealerships will usually prepare payment accounting for CA tax when you tell them.

Registration: dealership prepares two sets of DMV paperwork. One is for the state you're buying in. The other is for CA. The out of state one is for them to issue a temporary registration that will be usually be valid for one month from the time of purchase. Within that month, you must take the car to your DMV with your paperwork to complete registration of the car.

I ended up paying 1000 under msrp and 550 to ship on mine. Hope this helps!

I've been looking outside CA for my Dark grey BRZ Limited. Spoke to two dealers (one in CO and the other in UT). Both were going to sell me @ MSRP (one knocked teh price down due to shipping costs). The one in UT was probably easier to fly out and drive it back.
Shipping costs are about $600 for uncovered trailers. It's obviously more if you want covered.
You're best bet is to either call the dealerships locally every weekend, hoping one pops up or go Out-of-State.

GL in your hunt!

Does anyone recommend a good dealership for the BRZ?

I know that for the FR-S the place to go is at Longo Toyota and Jeffrey Chang is the man to talk to.

I had a good experience with Wes at Subaru San Bernardino. Other good dealers I spoke with are Subaru Pacific, Sierra, and Ontario (meaning they don't jack up the price).
