here a quick link but look around and you can find mentions of Yamaha in almost every bit of info that mentions the engine
Thanks, guess I'm just keeping my hopes down with so much "information" being flung around...

i'm glad some of you got my "over 9000" reference. i really think it will be between 7500 and 8000. i've said it probably 10-15 times on here by now, but i hope it has torque characteristics like the k20 in the civic si.

I would like to see 7600, anything above that I currently have doubts on for the production engine.

Why are we talking Redline? the Rev limiter is where the fun ends

2000 Celica, 7800rpm Redline.... 8350rpm Rev Limit

What Tq characteristics? To feel torqueless? That's a terrible wish upon any car for that matter.

WTF? If it does not rev till 8.000 RPM I am not getting this car. I want a naturally aspirated high revving engine. If redline is at 7.000 RPM, than give me a turbo. Or I may simply get the new Porsche Cayman S (988) if I find the cash.

was it you that hates the k20z3? haha, i've had this discussion before with someone on here. if you'll look at the torque curve for the k20z3, it's pretty darn flat. i've driven a few of the newer Si's, and i've never had a situation where 140 ft lbs across most of the rev range has been a problem. and yes, i know what torque is. my MR2 makes 250+ ft lbs to the wheels.

k20z3 dyno graph pulled from google

Here in Qatar, the NA subaru impreza (EJ204) is redlined at 7600rpm. This from models from 2006 till now

So I guess a performance FB20 would at least have a 7600rpm

Looks good on paper and sounds good in application. I like it. :happy0180:

Maybe, but the butt dyno tells me the Si in stock form is gutless. I was hellbent on getting one, got the financing done, found the one I wanted in stock online, went to test drive it and it just felt like a dog. Tried city, highway, on/off ramps and it felt like I was driving a Saturn (engine wise, the fit and finish was obviously much better). I couldn't wait to get out of that car when we got back. I hope the FR doesn't feel so gutless. It may have similar stats when its all said and done but I better be able to feel the car move.

kinda sounds odd but that gutless feeling is almost a characteristic of a flat curve. a flat tq curve will put you back in the seat smoothly unless its a boatload of tq. thats why i drive a speed protege. crap tune makes it feel like a beast dd but the miata feels dirt slow and its my fun car
