Hey guys! Thanks so much for all you people that participated last Saturday, that was a blast. The guys at the shop here had so much fun, we're going to standardize the track, and start a leaderboard for times Top Gear Style for next month! I hope everybody had as much fun on your end because for us it was a great change of pace.
Pictures will be up soon, I'm just collecting the pics and vids from those who were taking them. So excited about this exhaust project, and as was mentioned, we did get our plotter, so maybe if when Jeff gets back up here we'll figure out templates for the font bumper and side panels to cut out for a "kit" of sorts. Also that rear trim you did Jeff, that was a good addition to what we did Wednesday! |

@RedLeader
Disclaimer: I am not an automotive engineer or any sort of expert, and I'm not making any sort of promise that I'm actually right. I wouldn't worry about underbody panels causing lift as long as you have a decent-sized and functional front splitter. Turning the car into a giant airfoil is actually exactly what you want to happen. The key idea being that it's inverted compared to a plane's wing, so the whole body shape produces downforce. To that end, anything you can do to control the air that gets under the car (like use a splitter to prevent extra air from being forced under the car) and speed up flow under the car, will generate downforce. I think a real aerodynamicist would say that a key point is to make sure that the underbody Aero is a cohesive package. The splitter, underbody panels, side skirts, and diffuser need to work together to generate maximum downforce. I have a few books that are good starting points on the subject if you are interested in hearing even more that I've already put into this boring post. ![]() Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk 2 Last edited by Ninjin; 10-15-2012 at 09:07 PM. *Edit: were it a factory part, it'd be Kosher, but it wouldn't be, so I'd have to take it off for competition* Mostly, this idea was to see if paneling the under carriage to make it a smooth surface would have any noticeable effect on either top speed, stability, or fuel economy. Purely a test, so to speak. As to graphics, I'm not a big fan of covering my car in stickers, advertising or otherwise. Mostly they look tacky, and I'd like to keep my car clean. NOW, if the LM plotter can cut SCCA numbers and class designation characters on magnetic tape stuff, that'd be awesome! |
