It was a particularly rainy/misty morning, but I just had them spray the back end down a bit with a hose. Fairly evident and they didn't put up too much of a fuss for either fix.

Dealer got all of the fuel pump parts in on Friday, so I'm dropping mine off tomorrow morning. They still owe me a new ECU though.

I just visited my dealer and had the parts ordered per the Subaru TSB. Waiting until December-ish for the parts to arrive.

I don't think the dealer is concerned about the fix that was done in manufacturing...

Specifically the countermeasure. The FR-S owners who have had the chirp come back after the TSB was performed likely had techs that had no idea they needed to control the orientation of the plunger stopper when reassembling everything to make sure the chirp goes away for good; again because the Scion TSB basically just says, "replace the fuel pump and rail assembly", and that's it.

Again, the change is done at the factory. Note the words "production change" and "during assembly" i.e. when they make the pump at the factory. The dealer is simply replacing the entire thing which already has the fix done. The rest of the info is inconsequential to the dealer tech.

Gotcha, so I learned something here, thanks. I thought the plunger stopper was a part that could be manipulated by a tech when the pump and rail were re-assembled.

So to clarify, the plunger stopper is a part that's inside the pump itself and cannot be manipulated by a technician to ensure proper orientation; thus the fix is done when the pumps are manufactured?

This leaves a few FRS owners here in the dark. Those who have had the TSB performed and had the chirp return. Maybe they didn't receive a pump with the internal correction and since there's no way to tell without dissecting the pump....

Correct, they are completely replacing the fuel pump and related lines as shown in the TSB pics. My guess is that the sound is coming back because there may be nothing to KEEP the plunger stopper thingy oriented the way it should be to avoid the chirping. Either that, or Scion/Toyota is just replacing the part and nothing is being done about the orientation of the internals.

Don't worry, I'm sure Toyota will just recall all the cars at some point...don't they do that every few years just for kicks?

Or they didn't take the potentially faulty pumps out of the supply line and decided it was cheaper/easier to replace them a couple times for the unfortunate people who get a bad one that was still out there.
