I really don't get you folks. Just because someone doesn't go out banging a car off its limiter everyday or hanging it at the edge of its grip limit doesn't mean he doesn't deserve them. Jay is -saving cars for the future generations-. He's buying things, having them sympathetically restored by true professionals for everyone to love and enjoy, and then he drives them out where people can see them, be fascinated, and start the spark going.
How about the Tank Car, or his Dobles or his Duesenbergs? How many of those would be (with the exception of the Tank Car of course) be languishing in 'museums', started every now and again and driven around a parking lot (even my favourite museum is guilty of this), then put away for another few years, when they're going out in traffic for people to appreciate? The guy is a genuine gearhead with a big heart for cars, even stuff he doesn't like but he only appreciates he'll save, and he's one of the best gearheads in the world for spending his money and spare time and pulling his strings, working his connections, to save interesting slices of the past for future generations. How about his Honda S600? Jay Leno's my hero, no matter how well or badly he drives. That man is the best sort of gearhead-- a heart and soul guy. |

I know right? It's sad. Let's get back to celebrating our car, like the guy in this video does. It's a renaissance piece for a lot of the world, afterall-- It's the first truly affordable sportscar here in Australia for years.

And here's me thinking that steering wheels were a relatively new addition to american cars along with the stick shift
hee hee hee.. Surely all a muscle car needs is an accelerator and a bar on the dashboard to hold on to :P Jokes aside tho peeps... props to Jay for giving it stick and having such a good time of it. When it comes to driving he's certainly no Jeremy Clarckson.. but that's the difference then... Jay Leno can probably strip, rebuild and modify the car but he doesn't know how to drive it. Clarckson can drive the shite out of it, but short of adding petrol, has very little idea of how it works

Another member of the Jay Leno ftw camp here. People I know who've met him in person say he's a nice guy IRL, and in this video he demonstrates that he has a sense of humour and enough self-confidence to show us that drifting isn't as easy as it looks
![]() That said, I'm really glad he didn't actually put the car into the wall

I've run into Jay before on Angeles Crest Highway in his MP4-12C. He's definitely not a "driver" by any means, but at least he appreciates all his cars! He's a super cool guy too. Actually took the time to pull over and talk to some shit with us about our cars.

Fun video. It was funny to hear Tsuchiya laugh when jay gets close to the wall.
He likes all kinds of cars. ![]() "Its a swan-car you say. Not a hood ornament? Wow!" J/K |

I gotta say too, a lot of people rag on muscle cars and talk about how Americans hate stick shifts... The US market is -the biggest- manual market left in the world. There's a reason they get exclusive manual cars like M5 manuals-- And it's worth noting the 911 manual was built for US tastes, not German or British. Australia's far less of a manual market than the US-- Go right back to musclecars. What's the most expensive one? A Hemicuda 4-speed. Hands down.

Looks like 95% of the first timers at the drift events I've been to. Actually, he looks better than 50% off the bat because he didn't suffer from terminal understeer.
