Excellent writeup. I don't think I have read a more thorough and well thought out review of a product. Nice job making the exhaust work and not just returning it in a panic like some of us probably would.

You mention that you followed Grimmspeed's directions to remove the overpipe which doesn't involve jacking up the engine. Did you have to jack up the engine to install the Perrin overpipe or were you able to snake it in from the top?

Good catch and edited my post. Yes we were able to install it without jacking up the engine. I believe this message is brought to you by the makers of lifts, where work gets easy.

I can only imagine how hard it is on jack stands. While possible, it would not be fun breaking loose the oem nuts that hold the exhaust in place.

Looks great! Are you using the OEM exhaust bushings, or did you upgrade those as well?

We used the OEM hangar bushings. I wanted to upgrade but frankly, I cheaped out here.

1500$ for a headerback? Good lord. You can't even hear the resonated version!

Really nice build quality. A bit disappointing that you need to hammer your car so that it doesn't rattle, though....

seriously!?

I'm waiting on my exhaust to be delivered, but ordered the 12mm hangars from kartboy. Can't beat $8 each...

Didn't do my research, glad to know they are that cheap. Please note the Perrin hanger studs are narrower than the OEM ones. This likely the reason why the mini v-band clamps are included. Without knowing exact measurements, If the opening in the rubber hanger is too big then I think the exhaust will bounce around too much.

Let us know how your install goes

I can attest to the fact that everything was torqued down properly -- twice, in fact. That's why it was mind-boggling to diagnose.

The presence of the flex joint ahead of the resonator is what caused our issues. The combination of heat and the presence of that flex joint allowed the resonator to move away from the installed position and start making contact with the body. The cold/hot photos show the deviation in position between cold temperatures and hot.

If you have similar clearance, I would suggest running to the auto store and picking up some radiant foil like we used. While driving around, I pulled the e-brake boot and slid my hand between the carpet and the body -- HOT! Really, really hot. After banging-out the small u-shaped channel and applying the radiant foil, I could hardly feel any heat in that same location. It may save you from a slow deterioration of the metal in that shaft tunnel.
