Use Motul or Amsoil.

Royal Purple is an advertising company that happens to sell oil.

Moble 1 does not have a good reputation on some Subaru forums due to it's "issues with sheering".

More of an issue with it vanishing from the motor.

went down stairs and saw 5w20... lol my bad its been since may that ive done an oil change myself, taking the free ones at the dealership atm, especially with all the TSB's i dont want to be put "at fault" cause i changed my own oil, or w/e bs they can come up with

well ive never had a problem running mobil 1 oil, so i will continue to use it, the FA20 is made different from the other subaru boxer engines, design and materials used...ill take my chances, and if it blows up ill buy a new engine and run a different oil

I am planning on using Amsoil, when I was researching it, the local rep had this to say to my request for what its worth.

"Either the Amsoil OE 0W-20 or the XL 0W-20. I would consider using the correct viscosity important, and of course your location and driving style. If you do more stop and go, city type driving I would go with the XL."

Also you can sign up as a prefered customer and get a discount. I have a local distributor so I can just drive up and pick it up to save shipping.

Amsoil or Motul, whichever is easier to obtain for you.

Isn't multi level marketing just a pyramid scheme that just happens to sell oil?

I'm using the Motul 8100 X-Lite 0w-30. About ready for another change and I will send some out for a sample when I do.

Amsoil is definitely a MLM company, but they make good oil products as well.

I would say Motul 300V will be the best oil on the market. It gives you the really good performance and low friction !

I used Mobil 1 0w-20 and a factory Subaru filter at 2000 miles, but I'll probably switch to Amsoil at 7500 miles. I also added a Fumoto valve, so this should simplify oil changes greatly in the future.

I'm running the Motul 8100 0w20 right now, probably going to go 300v next time i've had some people suggest adding a little 8100 to it to prolong the life of it. Have you heard anything like this?

I converted the engine, trans, and rear diff to Amsoil. The tranny is so smooth now. Amsoil tranny specific oil is alot better that when they only had a generic 75w-90.

Actually, most oil companies are just advertising companies/oil blenders. Amsoil buys base stocks from Exxon Mobil. XOM buys their additives from one of only a few additive suppliers.

The issue with Mobil1 shearing is mainly due to people running the wrong viscosity for their application. And actually, the GF5 Mobil1's are holding up well. You're probably referring to a WRX running GF4 Energy Conserving 5W-30.
