2300 lbs, 180 hp, 6m, great handling, stock reliability, good fuel economy. I wasn't planning on drifting so the MR doesn't bother me at all. And less money. So I lose 2 seats and some storage, I still have the Legacy.

It can be under 2200 with 2zz, soft top removed and have a hardtop on 24/7 or popped off for weekend outtings. This is without touching interior parts like seats and bigger lightweight wheels(rpf1s) with smaller lighter profile tires, which could take another 100lbs out.

180 hp and 2200 lbs all stock interior sounds good. Would lay a whoopin' on a stock FR-S if we're talking 2800 lbs and 200 hp. Won't look as good though. Small price to pay I guess.

I'll still wait for a confirmed weight and motor though. I still don't want to believe that Toyota can be so dense that to come out with a 2800 lbs FR-S when they've been promoting 'lightweight' for so long. Probably the fucking marketing assholes. "Well, compared to a Lexus LS600h, or a Tundra, 3000lbs IS lightweight..."

And they got their info from Car and Driver. The rotary is in trouble and Mazda denies all rumors of working on an RX-8 successor....

That was their response when questioned about the 16x and a hybrid drivetrain (borrowed from Toyota in an agreement the two companies signed last year).

So it seems that the Rotary is in fact in very real danger of going away...again.

The RX-9 is pushed back to 2013 to get the Miata out in 2012, because of the cycle is up and the FT86 release next year.

LMAO at "absolutely possible" for using lasers.

Can't see how this will be long-term reliable, when most manufacturers couldn't figure out the DI carbon build up issue.

Good thing about carbon build up.. the rotary can get rid of most of it with a few high revs, if the car is cat-less.

A hybrid RX-9 sounds great, but the rotary engine tech is just not reliable enough IMO. I want a car that will last a fun 10 years, without an engine dying after 40,000 miles.

I've had all the of the rotary powered cars I've owned last 60+k miles with abuse, ported and/or turbo. Not many engines run that long with constant abuse and power going threw them. Most cases are people buying them and treating them like a Prius. Rev them up, add some premix, rev them up some more, race them, they'll last long the seals love it.

It's R&T, it's a widely read/viewed magazine. Average consumers will read this magazine and see a review of the car before even being able to sit in it. So yeah I really do think it counts.

I feel the reason why the Subaru got 3x the amount of votes over Scion are due to 2 things. Brand/quality perception and the turbo possibility.

It's gotta get 200k+ for me. I'm not trying to discredit the rotary engine, I think it's a step in the right direction. However, if I had the choice I'd take another I-4 accord over the rotary engine.
