While technically it is still 1.3 Liters, it is generally agreed that 4 stroke reciprocating engines have non power producing strokes, and wankel rotaries both do not have this issue and have other advantages, and because of this somewhere between 1.6 and 2.3x the displacement is required to make an engine of similar power. I don't know the exact figure regarding torque though.

But Yes you are correct, the lower revving automatic will lose out on a good portion of the advantage of this engine before considering the slushbox.

Besides, the OP raced an automatic RX-8, which is significantly slower than a MT with only 7,500RPM redline

Cool thanks! I didn't realize the RX-8 had gotten slower over the years. I've updated the chart.

2004 RX-8 / 2009 RX-8 R3 / FR-S

0-60: 5.9 s / 6.3 s / 6.4 s
0-100: 15.8 s / 16.9 s / 16.6 s
1/4: 14.5@96 / 14.9@94 / 14.9@95

I guess it really depends which year RX-8 we're talking about.

Glad I could be of help! The OP raced a 2006 RX-8 so I was using series I results

He wins by one car length, you win by 10mpg and no oil consumption. Seems worth it.

P.S. he can't even touch the top 1,500RPM's with his auto box or the torque converter will blow up. The manual goes to 9000 rpm, the auto only 7500. Such a waste!

In the 13b the 1.3L is the displacement for the whole engine. for that engine it is approximately .65L per rotor. the 2.6L is an equivalent displacement but not actual displacement.

The two are nearly equal, in case the similarity escapes you the 86 was built with RX8 in mind. What you won't find is many threads on RX8 forums starting with "I got 45 MPG" which I'm willing to trade for .2s 0-60 if that's what it takes...

Let's see how far each car can travel on 10 gallons of fuel.

Let's see which car burns more oil over the course of 3000 miles.

Like a guy who builds and races RX7's and owns a Mazda shop says all the time: "People just don't get that the Rotary engine needs to be treated like it's a 2 cycle engine."

@OP why didn't you switched cars and did another "honest" race? That will def. clear more things to both.

I still remember how slow it was compared to my FR-S, so like...I dunno, hit them flappy paddles faster?
I saw that parking lot picture and knew I had seen it before! Good old Guam!

I imagine this race going down in my mind. Two racey lookin' cars going full bore... then the old lady in the camry passing both of them. haha.

I've seen continents move faster... full blown continents.

Of course, I'm joking. But the RX8 is pretty slow. Hell, I thought the S2000 was slow and saw that video of one smashing a FRS. But besides knocking on the factory straight line performance, I'm looking at potential. And a BRZ with 350whp screams perfection to me.
