Subaru guys on NASIOC are talking about how the engine placement in the FT86 makes Subaru's conventional 'behind and to the right' turbo placement a no-go.
That being said, still no news on the new WRX/STI motor and how its turbo will be mounted.

On one of the turbo Legacy versions they do run the piping forward. But space may be an issue with this car.

I hope those were ebay turbos... Something that pointless would be a waste of a real quality turbo.

All I want is a non-obnoxious, streetable 230-250RWHP. I don't care how it's done really. All I know is that the 2.0 N/A won't do it without losing it's daily drive-ability or being crazy loud, so it doesn't get my vote.

It's very easy and possible for the FT to go turbo, you can see it does not extend beyond the engine, maybe just a bit. ![]() ![]()

The 10/11 Legacy GTs are pretty tall and large cars. and that sub frame height lengthens the total engine compartment. You think with the smaller FT86's engine being lowslung might have clearance issues with putting the turbo and piping directly below the engine? How close will the engine sit to the engine cradle and subframe? and will that have a major effect on the implementation of a turbo as well? Maybe raising the engine up? or the car up? would that change the COG balance?

yes, but to the large portion of the lewlzturbo crowd, neutral balance and low CoG mean jack squat. Err, wait, they couldn't slam their car's completely negating their suspension's use if you would have to raise it...hrrmm....quite a conundrum.
