Just to muddy the waters a bit more:
My wife's 2010 MazdaSpeed3 had two miles on it when we drove it off the lot. If I recall correctly, there was still some sort of blue plasticy sheeting material on the rims and/or windows that they had to take off before they sold it to us.

Both the sales manager and the district manager for Scion have contacted me based on my email about my experience.

22miles on the car at delivery and a comment from the finance guy “one of the sales guys took it out and had a good time he said its real fast”

They both assured me that no one raged out my car. Both were very concerned, the sales manager from the dealership at first seemed like he thought I was having buyer’s remorse and wanted to bring back the car. Once I explained that I loved the car and that money was not an issue he seemed to listen a little more to what I was upset about.

The thing that bugs me most is if no one took it out for a joy ride why did it have 22 miles.

10 miles fine, 15 miles ok, but who needs 22 miles for delivery and PDI?

I am going to make a post for the first 86 and see what others have got for their delivery miles.

Why dont you just let them do their job. Especially if you already asked corporate about it. Stop being such a baby. They are doing it for your safety and to make sure nothing happens to them if anything did happen to you.

They remove the wheel covers, plastic on the body panels, plastic and cardboard inside the cabin, etc.. They check and adjust tire pressures, check fluid levels, and general maintenance, then they do a roadtest to make sure it runs properly. So they are listening to the engine, suspension, tires, any noticable squeeks and rattles, etc.. Then they also run to a gas station to fill the tank for you.
Around here, dealers are within 100m from gas stations - because that's how much gas you will have, in your brand new car.
Just sayin'

Mine had 6 miles from pdi, and 3 more miles from the lot tech gassing the car up. So I took delivery with 9 miles.

Its really not a big deal at all. I doubt that they drive the cars as hard as they can either. They are following procedures, and a tech has to be chosen to PDI this car. I have talked to a few guys at different dealerships who have told me they are not allowed to PDI the FRS yet. The service manager has a good idea of who is mature enough to drive these cars as part of the PDI procedure.

Basically I am saying that just because you are immature enough to destroy someone's car, doesn't mean that paid professionals are prone to this behavior. Most don't care and treat your FRS the same as a Corolla or a Camry.

Check out drive! Are you kidding me? I would have done exactly the same thing as you. It's your car, not theirs.

PDI is standard procedure. They check the car to make sure everything works, nothing is leaking, any damage, etc etc etc.

Don't forget that there is a 100% chance that your car ALREADY WAS RUN AT WOT at the factory as part of the checks to ensure everything was working correctly when it left the plant.

And some times it may not even be the dealers fault the car has mileage on it. If the OEM had a lot of cars that was evaluated for *insert anything here* they may have been driven 10+ before it even left the railyard. Then again, when doing checks for simple engine noise at various rpms, they may not even move the car. No mileage or engine loading, but they may be spinning it at 5k for a set time etc etc etc.

I understand not wanting someone to hoon your new baby, but loosen up a bit.

A lot of the volkswagens we get at my dealership have that many miles on them when they arrive off the truck let alone post-pdi. That mileage could come from anything.

Think of all the damage they can inflict in 10 miles!!!! I hate dealerships as much as the next guy, but this is just ridiculous. I'm sure you're going to run that car harder than the dealership would. If something goes wrong in the first 10 miles of driving around, then you probably shouldn't want that car anyway.

Cars aren't made out of glass. And there's no scientific proof that a 'properly' broken in modern day engine performs better or lasts longer than a modern day engine that isn't broken in. Butt dynos do not qualify as scientific proof.

There's no way in hell a ODO could be 1-2miles only. I would be worried if it was.
They'd have to bring it in with a chinook chopper straight from the factory in Japan

They are usualy around 10miles. The cars gets driven alot on its way from Japan.
On an off trucks/boats and into workshop/PDI etc.

I am even working on doing pre delivery inspection, washing and cleaning the car before customers pick it up.
I go to the dealer and pick up the car there and then I drive it back to my work place and we do the work there and then drive it
back to the dealer.
