Broken Wheel Nut on new rims

Im quite sure all your stories of history with having no problems is good but what Im asking is how to fix the broken wheel nut I have lol

Are you using a spacer behind that rim......whats the size?

If your running a spacer over 5mm on stock studs....that might be your problem.

Drill out the stud or maybe sacrifice a socket and hammer it onto the remaining portion of the lug and wrench it off. Could also try some needle nose pliers but the nut may be on too tight.

I would use a dremel and flatten the edges into the shape of a bolt head. Then use the closest size socket to loosen it.

Do you have any idea how tight the broken nut is?

I will ask some machinists I work with for some advice on how to get this loose. Is this all aluminum, or is the threaded part steel?

You'll probably have to sacrifice the stud and possibly the hub. The tricky part is avoiding damage to the wheel.

The nut is fully torqued and the studs are steel, Im wondering if you could punch the stud out?

Are you running a spacer? With the amount of stud through the wheel, it doesn't look like you have enough area to bite, especially with Al lug nuts.

nope no spacer at all...they are illegal these are 18 x 9.5" +38 offset

Can't press out the stud. You have to grip the nut and unscrew it.

The good news is that the threaded portion of your fancy lug nut is steel. Specifically, SCM-435 steel. I did some research...

There are specialty welding rods that can be used for bolt extraction. These rods are specifically engineered to stick to the workpiece without weld spatter sticking to the surrounding area. Find a master welder and get him to weld a piece of tubing onto what is left of your lug nut. It'll need to be welded from the inside. 2 or 3 tack welds should do it. Then weld a nut atop the piece of tubing and unscrew it. A skilled welder should be able to do this without any damage to your wheels. Once you get this apart, get some conventional lug nuts.

that's basically impossible to weld to. I do a lot of intricate alloy TIG work and I wouldn't attempt to tack anything to that if I cared about the finish on the rims.

The weld pool would pop and spit trying to tack through the adonising and the remaining nut section would soak up enough heat to also damage the coating on the rims.

Easiest way is to drill out the stud, press out the remnants and install a new stud. They're only ~$3ish from Toyota/Subaru.

I told you in the 1st reply
1 you can get a narrow chisel and a hammer and break the al nut apart
If that fails
2 drill the stud out
Welding can heat damage the wheel finish. This is the only reason I didn't suggest it (I saw what rims you have in the signature)
If I was you, I would anyway get longer wheel studs, that doesn't look like its poking through the wheel enough (looks to be only engaging by like 5-10mm) unless its a optical illusion lol

Rawhyde is correct. I know some people who had there car stolen and the aholes screwed up the locks trying to get the rims off. They had someone weld another nut on them and get them off.
