These statements are hilarious. The space shuttle??? Buoys??? Really??? Are you sure you understand the purpose of this stuff?

Thanks Eric ! Yeah i see a lot of weirdness with polarized lense. I just dont understand why this effect only appear on some parts of the body panel .
Its normal. At least with the 3M product it is as it was the same way on my WRX which used the 3M film. The Xpel film that I'm using now doesn't do it though so my guess is that it is due to different manufacturing techniques.

If you were going to tailgate someone with your supermodel girlfriend strapped to your front bumper, you'd probably want to give her at least a thin sheet of plastic to make sure she made it to your destination in decent condition.

It's very hard to find touch up paint in supermodel colors.

I refer all of you to a movie that is roughly about this situation called, "Death Becomes Her", with Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn. Hilarious dark humor.

The effect is probably most dramatic within deep curves as the film would effectively be a bit 'thicker' in those areas (similar to the way you can look at the sun during sunset/rise and not at high noon), creating more polarized distortion.

I get the same effects with my sunnies and some windshields and window tints, especially the Pontiac/Chevy Venture minivans b/c of the steep windshield angle.

Of course it's different plastic crap on the Tundra. It's super thick and very obvious. My point there is that at least some manufacturers were using plastic crap on cars. I was backing you up on that one.

You can always see the film. People can go to great lengths to make it less annoying. Wrap around the edge of the panels, and cover everything so the difference isn't as noticeable. It's still there, though. A good installer with quality products will definitely make it less annoying.

Both of your pictures look overexposed. The second is more overexposed, and focus is more on the reflection than the finish. (I can see you!) Can't tell anything from those pictures because all depth in the finish is hidden.

As for sports cars, most of the plastic isn't on the outside either.

No, I'm equating a car with a supermodel. Pay attention.

Sorry about that, those guys distracted me.

What you're seeing is physical stress in the plastic film. It may be stretched more (or less) in that area than in the surrounding area. Once you start hitting rocks, you should be able to see the resulting stress from the impacts as well.

Add a polarized light source for cross polarization, and you should get all kinds of colors through the film.

Everyone is a critic. I picked 2 quick photos in order to show that you can't see or notice the film. . .didn't realize this was dpreview.com and you were going to critique my photography skills. Here are 2 more, both with the film applied, to show that the film does not affect the depth of the paint. If you require camera, lens, settings, and histograms I can provide those as well. LOL.

You win the internet. At least the car part of it, anyway.

I know a lot of folks use this stuff when they track their cars a few times in summer, and then remove it. Many people are using much cheaper alternatives that are only applied for one track event and then removed.
Sticky tires on track toss 3" long snakes of rubber mixed with gravel and sand. Your own tires trash the lower quarters and other cars trash the front end. I always wax the surface so the rubber snakes don't leave long black streaks.

No problems. They could happen. . they may not. Have to keep in mind that things tend to get blown out of proportion on forums. Those that have issues yell the loudest.

I have a clear bra on my STI, and it has proven beyond a doubt that it does what it's supposed to do. I have no idea where the skepticism comes from. I've driven my STI on dirt and gravel roads behind another car and heard MULTIPLE impacts to my hood and nose. Not to mention every day strikes. Compared to the windshield on my STI, the nose is spotless. It would be a pockmarked mess if it weren't for the clear bra.

The clear bra is demonstrably effective though REAL-WORLD results. Period.
