Gotcha. I agree that a car that you spent 1k on isn't worth spending 3k+ for a set of wheels. The only real Enkei's I've had experience with are RPF1's and they seem to hold up extremely well.

And before anyone asks, I have yet to rock a set of Rotas (or Volks, for that matter). My personal aftermarket rim experience is with Work, Enkei, and Konig (these came with a car I purchased). I can also can tell you that these reports of Rotas "destructing" are blown way put of proportion. Yes, it happens, but that out proportion to the expensive rims? There are a lot of factors in play here. |

Other than the supposed stigma of Rotas being "knock offs" (who gives a shit? There's only like five basic wheel styles anyway), they have a very good reputation for what they are. Anyone who is all that concerned about bending a rim could either buy an extra set or spring for forged ones. At the end of the day the Rotas work just fine, and are light and inexpensive. Apparently there were a few bad Slipstream units floating around a few years ago, and this event gave birth to the internet myth that Rotas are junk. Rota replaced the few bad wheels free of charge and fixed the problem in the casting. No other problems reported since, and I don't know of anyone who's ever had a problem with them otherwise. I've had my Rota Subzeros for about 5 years and they are perfect. |

Read what I said again about tracking. If you seriously tracked your car then you'd take Volks over Rotas. You're already spending some serious cash on drivetrain, replacing bumpers, etc. so why would you skimp out on wheels? It boggles my mind why people would spend so much cash on their ride, yet cheapen what is actually putting that power on the ground. It just doesn't make sense. And Jordo, how are Rotas supposed knockoffs? They are knockoffs. Slipstreams are a blatant copy of Spoon SW38s, J-Mags are a copy of Mugen M7's, and D2s are a copy of S1 Meisters. They may have some of their own designs, I just can't tell having not seen the real thing if there is a real thing for some models that they sell. Hell, even on their home page they've got an Evo sitting on fake ass concave TEs. Now try to tell me they're "supposed" knockoffs.

Really. That's a silly argument considering the multi-million dollar budget of Super GT versus the shoestring personal budget of club racers. |

Regarding my comment about Rotas being knock offs (or, as I like to say, "knock offs"), I just mean that there's only so many wheel styles, so just pick the one you like by the manufacturer you like and move on.
In other words, who cares? It's not as if a given spoke design is some sort of patented secret. It's just a style -- cosmetic. If I can get the style I like for less on a wheel that performs (i.e., light and sturdy), I'm happy. Or is all about the Volks sticker? I thought everyone on this forum was a car enthusiast (whether soft- or hard-core), so who gives a fuck whether the wheels are JDM or not so long as they get the job done? |

Of course they make cast knock-offs of forged rims. That's the whole point of Rotas existence.

If you want the forged one, and have the cash, buy it. This is turning into a designer jeans argument... |
