If the car weighed like 2200lbs (which is the next-gen Miata's target weight, BTW), I think I'd be ok with leaving it alone haha. Come to think of it, depending on when this thing actually gets released, I may have a real hard decision between a next-gen Miata and an FR-S. Hurry the F up Toyota!

On/off ramps are fun....but a true drivers road, like the dragon's tail, is infinitely more-so. I plan on the occasional trackday, plus frequent pleasure drives on surrounding roads. Finding a twisty, deserted road on a Sunday afternoon is one of my favorite things to do.
True but it seems as though you want to lighten it but not lighten it.

When I had my '94 GSR, I lightened it! Those cars were about 2700 lbs and I never weighed it but towards the end of its life cycle, I eventually gutted it. At times, I sort of see a slight resemblance from the Integra to this FRS, minus the RWD vs FWD. 170hp 4 cyl 1.8L, 8k redline, 2700 lbs etc

-removed the ABS motor
-removed the entire AC unit
-moved the battery to the rear
-removed the cruise control motor
-removed the lower part of the air box for an AEM units (couldn't drive it in the rain b/c it'll suck up water and they didn't have the bypass valve yet)
-removed the rear seats, plastic trimming, carpet and sound deadening material
-removed the spare tire and jack
-had a straight pipe (HKS dummy cat)
-had a full Trust exhaust (before they went to Greddy)
-removed/shaved the power antenna, side molding and rear wing

btw, I love twisties too!

Aren't you the one that mentioned you wanted a sub w/ built in amp for the car? Doesn't sound like a weight diet to me. If anything you want all the creature comforts.

You mean the road with a 30mph speed limit and a local cop/state highway patrol officer every 1/2-1mile. Yeah I wouldn't count that a true drivers road any more since you can't really enjoy it any longer.

Reducing weight can gain performance everywhere.
First, aftermarket cat-back,
Double adjustable aluminum shocks.
Remove everything that is not bolted down, spare tire and jack.
Empty water in the windshield wiper washer container.
Empty radiator overflow container.
Half filled master cylinder, half fill radiator.
Turn brake rotor down, sand brake pads down.
Hollow front sway bar.
Update/backdate parts from lesser model.
Of course there is more, but you get the gesture.
1/2 filling fluids just doesn't seem practical for a vehicle that will also be used as a DD. Also sanding brake pads down and hollowing out the sway bars to save weight is a piss poor manner to reduce weight at the risk of safety and longevity of car parts. Pass.

Low profile lightweight speakers

Enkei RPF1s or lighter

Aluminum control arms and links

Aluminum front and rear crossmembers

Aluminum uprights

Aluminum engine and trans mounts

Aluminum/Carbon drivershaft

Fiberglass/CF hood, trunk, and Sparco or Corbeau bucket seats, aluminum seat brackets.

I'm sure it will come with plastic intake manifold and valve covers like almost every Subaru these days come with.
O RLY?

heh...

List is good, though, just not sure I agree on the 'reasonable cost' part.

I would add, aluminum hat brakes, ATI crank damper (don't do lightweight crank pulleys people...), aluminum accessory pulleys, and power steering delete (with the low weight, and good distribution this shouldn't be half as bad as it was on my Supra).

Brake part isn't cheap, though.

Ever heard of Hotchkis bars? They are hollow and safe.

Hmm, missed the 'hollowing out' the anti-roll bar comment. Makes it sound like people are doing it themselves...

In torsion, the inside hardly does anything, it's wasted material.

Tanabe anti-roll bars are also hollow and chrome-moly.

If you had read the rest of his posts. English isn't his native language. Him and the OP already discussed what he said.....

You don't need to police the board.

Difference between buying something engineered and designed with that in mind vs a home project as the poster made it sound. Big difference don't you agree? It isn't about just drilling some holes here and there. I could have misread the post but they made it sound like a home job.

Looking at the original, I'm pretty sure he was using 'hollow' as an adjective, not a verb.

That being said, I would love to see someone try to hollow out their own, solid anti-roll bar. That would be hysterical. (For those that don't know, they're not straight...)

Yeah that could very well be the case. The poster just included that after mentioning a few other things they would do themselves so this kinda flowed in. I probably just misread that as it would be dumb to even try this. But you never know on a forum.

Agreed. There are plenty of other roads throughout the north Georgia mountains and south east Tennessee that are a blast to drive, have very low traffic, and rarely patrolled to the point where on some of them I've never seen a cop.

The Tail of the Dragon became legendary for it's twists and turns to the point where it's a tourist trap.

You're forgetting the amp, if I'm not mistaken. I doubt this thing will have enough power draw for aftermarket speakers, even with a headunit.

^ i agree, factory premium sound systems are pretty common but they also add weight. Which is why we see them in pretty average and heavy cars. If someone is looking to dump sounds into the FR-S, they might have to up the amperage of the alternator.
