I redlined it on the way home from the dealership, next day at 207mi I took it canyon running and redlined dont know how many times there and lots of heeltoe with one heeltoe too early and I was at redline when I let go clutch, slid a few times here and there, I have a tad over 310mi right now I think and this is the 3rd day, I only drove it to gas station to get gas and to eat today. So yeah I believe I broke mine in pretty well.

That's a really hard break in. That's the thing, I've read somewhere that doing a hard break-in will do good for your car. It's just confusing on what to believe in, hard break-in or manufacturer's break-in suggestions.

I honestly feel the exact same way... So conflicted on what to believe.

Breaking in will always be a car myth, every engine is different and everyone is a master mechanic you know. Having hard scientific facts on how this engine might need a hard break in or how this engine needs to be taken care of for a 1,000 miles will be next to impossible.

I have a firm belief that since our engines are performance engines (high revving) that it needs a hard break in. But this just stuff i learned from word of mouth and the few experience i have with engines.
Seeing more in detail discussions about break ins is always interesting, when it comes to something like this you need to form your own belief, not just follow majority.

So... break her in hard, eh? I'm a bit shy of 750 miles and I've had to rev my engine a few times passed 4K for emergency purposes

Id say do a combination of the two. Drive it hard sometimes yet drive it soft sometimes. Basically drive it without thinking about the break in period. Imo if you drive it soft you wont break in the car at the upper rpm but only the lower ones. Kind of like how all cars you have to rev it hard once in awhile or it will break or stutter when you drive it normally for years then suddenly decide to rev it. My family used to have an old Lexus es300 or something from 1995. It was driven soft all its life and one day i kept the rpm up and it had cel ever since. My friend who trashes his never had that problem. His is still running.

They harder you drive it the first 10 000kms the better it drives afterwards, according to my Toyota dealer here in Sweden
When I told him that the CEL was one he just said "You didn't drive it hard enough, lol".

I doubt that all the GT86/FRS/BRZ that they skid around everywhere on various reviews are broken-in before they test em.

just cracked 1k today on the way to work. I admit i did rev it over 4k about 5-6 times on the highway and through the streets while driving before that though.

I really think the "break in" period is to keep dumbasses from blowing up the engine before 1k and wanting a full warrantied new one.

I'm sure Toyota or subaru have run the engines at one point with mineral oils to allow the rings to seat. Trying to break in your engine with synthetic oil is not the best way.
most engines these days should be broken in by the first heat cycle. We always use either Motul or Amsoil engine break-in oil during this time to better aid in that process for the fresh new engines.
I'm more concerned about the drivetrain fluids being contaminated with the shavings from the gears properly breaking in.

Our car will see a complete fluid change at 500 miles.
engine / trans / diff.... car should be seeing track time once that has been done.
