One thing I'm really hoping is that the rear seats in the FR-S fold down....if they don't it's a no-go. I'm not in the position to have 2 vehicles yet....transporting them is too difficult since I'm single and don't have anybody to drive a second car.

It's even lighter than the FR-S is going to be, handles like a dream, and has sufficient power for it's weight. It's in the 6's for 0-60, and the engine actually responds quite well to basic modifications. I don't like the folding hardtop though....it takes away from the point of the car.

My concern is that, because the FR-S is going to be ~200lbs heavier than a Miata, it needs a bit more power, otherwise it really is going to be a bit of a dog.

Obviously if the magazines are testing it and they're getting low 7's or extremely high 6's, I'm still going to test drive the thing. I always give things a shot - if the rest of it was THAT good, I could overlook it. I'd be much more likely to simply wait and get the eventual TRD/STI version though. Why compromise?
at the scion press conference at the NY auto show, they mentioned 2+2 seating with a flat cargo area so im sure it'll have something as simple as folding rear seats.

imo it'll definitely at least equal the miata's performance. but seeing them benchmark it against a WRX and supra makes me think they are shooting higher. for handling "feel" they benchmark it with the cayman.

in all honesty, i really dont see why having it be a turbo is such a big deal? it would bump up the price and it would have to compete against faster competition like the 370z. a turbo may overwhelm the chassis? what size tires can fit under the fenders? i dunno... i have this feeling that they never engineered this car for big power, so who knows whats going to happen if you turbo it...

where it is right now, this thing is looking more like a RWD RSX Type S... 2800 lbs, 200 hp, coupe, etc. its a segment that is dominated by FWD hot hatches and a RWD entrant would be awesome. imo the gen coupe 2.0 is a disappointment. they did give it a turbo but artificially kept its hp low. its also a bigger car and heavy.

RWD RSX-S its the car i wanted since 2002...

This is a fully stripped out 1st gen mr2 built 4age. Steve makes this thing move. I was actually working the finish line and was running this past weekend with him. Car is fast and is prepped the same way as that yellow Stang in the above clip. They are both in Prepared classes. The Yellow Stang rapes it, both drivers are very good drivers.

Agreed on all points!

Even on the turbo....if they can get 200 from a 2.0L, then they can get 250 from a 2.5L. If the higher performance model goes that route I would absolutely not be disappointed.

That's pretty sick. I always love to see Mustangs race-prepped for something other than drag.

Mine is a GT-S as well, though I highly doubt your car had the same color combo....it was never offered on the GT-S'. SR-5's, yes.

The only reason my car has it is because of whomever the previous previous owner was decided to -try- to do a panda job, and didn't exactly get it right.

Only the SR-5's were offered in the red two-tone.

The 370 is not all too fast, the SCCA classes it with a non turbo Solstice. This car.. FR-S, should beat the 370z on paper but a ROAD course that has long sweepers and straights, it won't. Autocrossing it should stock for stock beat it. This weekend Husband and wife in their black Solstice(nonturbo) BOTH put down faster times on the course then the 2 370z by 4 seconds by husband 2 seconds by wife. All pro drivers of both cars. Same course as the white MR2 youtube link from this weekend.

The non turbo C-Stock Solstice was OOONLY 2 seconds slower than the wild D-prepared mr2 4age. Stock class means only front swaybar, shocks(not springs), dropin intake filter, catback with stock cats, hoosier dot slicks. That's all allow to change in stock class. Prepared is like unlimited, lol. Husband and wife were at least in the late 40s.

i didn't know that DOT slicks were allowed in stock class. Good to know, i always was under the impression that the unlimited classes were the ones that allowed slick tires.

Stock class, Street prepared, Street Modified, Prepared and Mod. Yes

Street touring(ST), STS, STU, STX. No, they are restricted to 180 threadwear. Hankook RS-3 and Dunlop Star Specs are the kings of that region.

It's interesting that you say that, and even more amazing that this thread somehow got back on topic , I never payed much attention to the Solstice as a serious driving car .

The Saturn/Scion situation is surprisingly similar too. Down to the late to the game serious sports car.

Does anyone know if they managed to get a Sky Targa made before the axe fell? Or just the Solstice?
