im personally dead set on AT unless the reviews come out that it shifts like crap. wheel mounted vs column mounted isnt that big of an issue. at least it comes with paddles...
sure with a manual you're more involved, but with a good, sporty manual mode, the paddles are just as much fun imo... can you do the same things as a manual? no. but i dont plan to do burnouts and drift or anything like that. weekend autocross or track day? i dont see why auto with paddle shifting is so evil? maybe im just spoiled because the SST is such a wonderful dct. we'll have to wait and see what the auto is like on the car. im hoping that they use the tech from the IS-F... |

The good thing I see from paddle shifters are traffic. If you're falling asleep behind the wheel.. switching to AT wouldn't be so bad. Or those who have leg cramps or leg problems in general.

Long drives in traffic with leg cramps is the worst thing I gotta say I drove both a F430 Scuderia and a Lamborghini Gallardo both with paddle shifters when I was in Vegas on their track and while it was really cool to use the paddle shifters and awesome driving cars I'll never own I can't say I enjoyed or felt connected to the car at all as oppose to driving around in a S2K shifting through the gears yourself then again I could use be one of "those people" who believe in the stick |

Automatics make it easier for you to do things that take your attention away from driving, unlike manuals. But even a manual requires little attention span on the interstate. |

I meant like for those who have trouble clutching 1/2nd Ya know?!
I have a blast while driving stick during traffic. Other drivers wonder wth I'm doing since I start jamming out to music and make shift noises when traffic is 10-15mph. Lol

E.g. in a community starting from dead stop to make a right turn, you will need to turn the wheel 1/2 to 1 full circle and you do need to shift from 1st to 2nd gear. However, in a track or winding roads where you only need to turn < 1/2 circle in either direction, having a wheel mounted paddle will help you since you can always keep your hands at 3-9 o'clock location. And I think this is where Tsuchiya san's comment came to effect. And this is proven by the way F1 cars are using the wheel mounted paddles. IMHO, for street car, column mounted paddles seem to have less problems compared with wheel mounted paddles, but for race-oriented cars wheel mounted paddles seems to be better suited. |

I suppose if one is ambitious enough, they could move and remount the paddles to a location that better suits their driving style. hell, hook up a kinect bar to the dash between the wheel and the gauge cluster and program in a system so all you have to do is flick your hand forward or back to shift without ever actually having to deal with a physical paddle.
um, excuse me while I go patent that idea....
