I had a 1996 Maxima, a 2002 WRX, and now a BRZ. They all felt equally powerful, and in fact all had about the same WHP, but the BRZ weighs 400lbs less. You may have to downshift to get the power in the BRZ but it's still there and I definitely never worry about having the power there for passing or pulling out of side streets. I'm surprised that 20% voted for V6, I think it would ruin the car.

you do understand they use a flat 4 because of it's low center of gravity... and this engine was designed with the tranny to sit lower in the car.... and be the base engine for the next generation WRX... and puts out nice power after you tune/put a full exhaust on it. F a heavy v6 that will probly push into the bonit@!

I own an FR-S and I thoroughly enjoy the car, believe me, but what's kind of sad/funny is that my old '00 v6 Camaro now feels like a torque monster.
I believe the 3.8l v6 in that car has 200hp and 200tq, and that torque is early... Now hopefully an intake, full exhaust, and tune can at least make my FR-S feel as torquey as my v6 Camaro.

Apparently Ford misrepresented the numbers, and some cars here were making 400+rwhp rather than 400 at the crank

Regardless, in reference to the OP, if your main factor when buying a car is whether you'll be able to drive dangerously to compensate for your lack of preparation when exiting, you may need to see a variety of mental doctors. Start changing lanes 2 miles before your exit so you don't have to be a dumbass and risk not only your own life, but those of people around you. |

Yeah, that was my conclusion too. The only acceptable solution for me is for them to increase the displacement to around 2.5L and tune it for more power. I don't want forced induction or more cylinders in this car.

I don't even own one and voted for the 4 cylinder. If they offered a V6(while it might be cool), would create an entirely different car, specifically a much heavier one.
Just wait, someone will shove a V8 into one of these any day now. You'll get to see your fantasy play out. Or don't wait ![]() [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6f9xI2kI5ro&feature=plcp"]MAX☆ORIDO TOYOTAnew86-V8 - YouTube[/ame] If I had to guess, maybe 75-100lbs? It would need to have lots of aluminum parts to be close otherwise. The block itself would add a big chunk of weight. |

Driving the FRS since labor day, I find the low end torque plenty for a NA 4 cylinder. Its really drives around fine at ~2k rpm, almost too fine.
I sort of feel like its an old V8 Lincoln or where you just cruise at low rpm. I think because I feel that stupid torque dip when you first rev up so you just naturally back off and stay away from there. The nice thing is when you need to rev it and just blast past that torque dip it answers the call. I know most NA performance 4 cylinders will not last long cruising at low rpm, that concerns me most about this engine, but I understand that a boxer engine is really an entirely different animal than an inline 4 Honda. Also I am still under 1k miles so try to stay under 5k, thats probably part of getting to know the car I am missing out on. |

The FR-S was never intended to win lots of drag races..... Most V6 sedans can crush it in a stoplight grand prix.....
Take the same Maxima to a ROAD COURSE and things will be drastically different....the maxima will be all over the place with horrible understeer.....vs the excellent balance of the FR-S |
