Stupid thing is the Camaro was largley designed by holden and sits on a cut n' shut VE Commodore platform... how rude to not make a RHD version for us ![]() As for the name of the FT-86... I dont understand why calling it a celica is such a big deal, I think the styling fits, parts of it remind me a lot of a 6th gen (that also reminds me of the last supra) and that model celica had cred (in GT-FOUR form anyways). I think it has been designed with the driving spirit of the AE86 but there the resembelence ends... the styling seems to have the spirit of the celica (except the 7th gen... i think that was a step in the wrong direction).

yeah, thats not a confirmation...thats just speculation.
His insider could be the owner of a dealership for all we know. Until Toyota says otherwise, -nothing- is confirmed. |

Before that, just as important than trim in measuring market price is really what body style. Coupes fetch a smaller price than hatches. SR-5's are about as universal in price as it gets. A beaten up but running one is worth (Thats, net worth to the enthusiast market) about 800-1200. A good condition running SR-5 is anywhere between 1200-2000, with $2000 being exceptionally clean and straight, and typically in an area where AE86's are heavily rare, because only the desperate would buy an SR-5 for $2000. If you're paying more than $2000 for an SR-5 you're no longer desperate, you're downright insane, UNLESS you already have access to necessary parts to convert it basically into a GT-S....or any other parts to make it competent (like say tuned 3T-C, etc.). GT-S' are a different story. I've seen ok condition hatches sell for as much as $4500. But you could say the average for a running ok/good condition GT-S is $2500-$5000, depending largely on how well maintained it is and what mod's are on it. Non-running GT-S' can still sell well, especially if the interior is clean and the body is marginally free of scars. My friends non-running '86 (kouki) hatch sold for $2200 a few years back. My hatch with the currently not running 4A-GE, could probably easily sell down here for $2500. Why? Well, the GT-S market down here is pretty scarce. It's also a hatch. An unmolested (not touched AT ALL) and clean GT-S hatch would fetch the highest premium next to a professionally built GT-S hatch street car....and the price is really very dependent on the market variables. I'd say no less than $4500 and as high as $7000. The same car, only low mileage (sub 100k) and clean as all getout....well, I've heard of one selling for $10000. Not joking. This is of course after the huge blowup in popularity of the car and drifting that started in the early 2000's. Before that, the car reflected more the KBB value for a 15+ year old corolla: Not much. |

![]() The AE-86 was never a model of car... it was a chasis code, the car itself was a corolla and I can't see the FT-86 fitting in as the new sports version of a corolla ![]() Personaly I would prefer they just kept FT-86

To me, Celica is Toyota's ultimate heritage badge and what this car should be called. Both the Supra and the Camry started as Celica models. You can't get more old school than that.
I still can't believe they let that 37-year continuous production nameplate end. That's like Ford discontinuing the Mustang. |

A gap between the 7th and 8th gen celica's is actually a smart move. It means that they shrug off some of the image of the Gen7. MG have done it. Disappear from the market for a number of years...everyone forgets about MG and now MG are back and their new cars look great!
Toyota can now bring out the Gen8, its RWD and looks awesome! Lets start again now the original formula is back!

I really don't see the problem here. ... I mean buy the Subaru. Problem solved. It's prolly gonna be the same Subaru everywhere in the world.

The squared off rear haunches and how they stop right at the tail lights, the headlight shape is a continuation of what was on the last celica (more stylized though), the overall size, the stance, and especially the bodykit seen on some of the prototypes out testing. It all screams Celica to me.
