Actually here are some generic pictures of the general fitment. The only modification was dremmeling the bottom sill to get the tablet to seat better. Once that happens it actually fits perfect into the bezel and the metal brackets that hold the actual head unit in place make it a secure fit. So basically the tablet rests in the bezel, once you snap it in the dash the back of the tablet is pressed against the metal frame of the head unit bracket and the clips of the bezel hold it in place. Make sense? |

JVC has an app for android you can switch inputs, control radio, and change songs via BT, and EQ settings, also the external mounted remote does the same thing plus volume etc. |

@Dezoris:
Audio quality.....I'd seen in another thread (googled car installs) that it's a bit shoddy running through a headunit aux style setup like you've done. What's your experience? |

It is extremely hard to tell true audio quality with the stock speakers. They suck, no way around it. I have found that the audio quality given the limitation of the speakers, interior noise etc has been good when you tweak the EQ settings on the head unit and tablet. I don't have any major complaints. I consider myself extremely picky and the sound quality is just good enough to live with.... Right now.
This is more of a test to see of you can actually get a tablet working for most of your day to day needs without any major tradeoffs. Here are the specs: http://resources.jvc.com/Resources/00/01/53/15347.PDF The thing is, this build is about trying to put something together for under $500. If you want audiophile quality sound, it's going to put you over $1200, with something like Audison, amps, and Speakers. And I may get to that point, or at least start with speakers and MAYBE a small sub. |

@Dezoris - seems to be a clean install. Is it nicely fixed against the Bezel with a robust safe fit?
It's hardly surprising BT streaming is poor - the codec is very lossy and nothing out there supports the lossless new codec apt-x which would ameliorate much of the quality issues. With regards to the stock speakers - whilst the general consensus on these forums are that they are indeed poor, it's also thought that the mid-bass 6.5" driver in particular dramatically improves once you deaden and seal the open door ports. Have you tried this? I'm also a bit leery of using a audio processor. Fundamentally you're trying to improve the SQ on a audio stream that's been converted from digital to analogue poorly, amplified with headphone amp, passed through the headunit (with further amplification probably) and then hitting an audio processor that needs to magically improve this pathway. Plus $$$$'s There's been progress on enabling USB audio -> DAC output (http://rootzwiki.com/topic/34051-gui...c-and-nexus-7/). There's also some progress on charging the nexus AND using USB OTG Devices (http://rootzwiki.com/topic/30615-can...20#entry927176) I am unsure if you can as yet charge AND use a DAC concurrently but progress none the less. Another option is to remove the tablet's back, remove the battery and hard wire it onto the car wiring. Advantages are you avoid the issues of charging over USB and battery heat (http://rootzwiki.com/topic/31144-usb...10#entry951614) |

^ so there is progress. It would seem a root and battery alter would get this audio and battery issue sorted out

1. Full reboot every time you turn off (i think) as there's no standby power from battery 2. The audio rom is still buggy when you do usb out........you lose mic in functionality which is a pain if you want to eg. use nav search with voice recognition Close but not ideal yet. I still think USB audio w/ concurrent charge is the way to go. I'm unsure as to whether then running it through a headunit is the way to go or not though. |

@Dezoris - Awesome work so far. Very impressed with the UI work done. i have no background/ experience in software development but was wondering if it is possible to pair an android phone with the tablet so messages or caller ID would pop up on the screen. something like the XBMC remote.
