sure they are shakers\rattlers, not speakers at all

I am planning to upgrade my ugly 2din unit with some progressive 1Din one

like Pioneer MVH-8300BT

I dont' want any headache with amplifiers'n'stuff so maybe you could advise some other 3-way split sets, considering there will be no external amp, so I dont need to overpay for a bit pricey Hertz HSK163?

thanks!

Upgrading your head deck to an aftermarket one should already improve your sound quality somewhat.

If you're not going with an external amp, I don't suggest you spend much on speakers. Their potential will just go to waste. I probably wouldn't spend more than $200 on the front set if I wasn't hooking them up to an amp.

For your purpose I think 2-way splits will do.

The Hertz DSK165 are quite popular. They go for around $200.
As do the Pioneer TS-A1604C.

I think 3-ways start at around $500 (don't quote me on this).

I did exactly what you did with my first car (and first aftermarket sound setup). Just bought some crappy little HU, Front speakers, and 6x9 for some bass. They were all entry level. As you can imagine, the sound wasn't mind blowing. But it was a significant upgrade to the stock crap. If you are after a relatively small but noticeable improvement, then you're getting the right stuff.

Hope that helps.

Dude if you ever need to change a wheel, I'll do it for the low-low price of just $200.
Removal of gear from old source.
installation into new source.
fabrication of custom sub enclosure/false floor
removal of all panels to fit dynamatt.

And warranted workmanship.. quickly adds up if you want it done right.

Yup. Lifetime work warranty. Just means if a part fails, I can replace it with a new one without having to pay any extra in labour.

Update

Update: I've changed the Hertz speakers for an Audison setup (same company, I know). Refer to the original post. This setup should yield a slight improvement in sound as well as more room for loudness (if needs be).

The P400-4 will be running these. 2 channels for the dash speaker pairs and 2 for the door woofers.

I want to add some bass, but can't afford to lose any of the already limited boot space. A removable sub is not an option because I want the extra sound when the car is packed full for a trip in the country.

Do you think 8" shallow subs would work in the rear (where the crappy rear speakers are) or better to go with an underseat sub?

I'm not wanting to break windows, just want to improve the bass a bit without spending a fortune.

Tbh i dont think you'd fit subs under the seats.... theyre pretty slammed.

But yea if you dont want to lose boot space.. that will add SOME low end kick... combined with decent woofers in the door and mids/high up top... maybe some fill in the rear speakers you will get a sound setup that will pump without losing space

Yeah you're right, no way in hell an underseat will fit.

So 8" shallow in the rear thoughts?

Yea man. Have 2 subs sitting in the back. The only problem will be to cut a hole big enough in the panel. But if you don't mind doing that, then it's a pretty good idea.

I've read somewhere that they are deep enough to fit shallow subs. So I think you're all sweet.

If you did it yourself not only would it be free, but you'd also know exactly went in to it, not to mention the fun and satisfaction of a job well done.

unless if you had no audio/electrical experience you have a bodgey DIY job... and a poor sounding set up.

Forget 3 ways.

If you are going to spend X amount of money, you will get better 2 way splits than you will 3 way splits for that money.
And better 2 ways will sound better than cheap and nasty 3 ways any day.

I had Aust best sounding car at one stage and all i had was 2 x tweeters, 2 x midbass's and 1 x 12in sub.
It sounded perfect, and when i wanted it to, could crank it up and it would rip your head off.

But it all came down to research and selecting the best products that were in my budget and not buying into marketing.

Looking forward to your final install pics! Obviously not in AUS, but always like to see quality installs. Great gear BTW!

Haha ...

Im going to have to do it on a budget and do it myself...
Thinking of using my old 4 chanel JVC amp... 100w rms per chanel...
Possibly to power the stock speakers. Then work my way up from there...
Im broke as. My 12inch JVC wont fit. Maybe a custom box for it.

Very curious to see you setup with regards on how they worked on the boot space.

Also are they taking progress pics for you ?
