I spend about 6 hours working on this last night.

I re-vinyled the fake carbon fiber pieces, came out very nice.
I installed a different head unit, that allows some BT commands off your phone. Has two full powered USB ports to actually charge the tablet.
Hands free mic bla bla bla.

I tried to integrate the head unit remote into the bezel and destroyed it. So for now going to mount the remote external until I can either figure out an easier way, or get custom work done.

Those who mention Audison, that shit is $$$ I don't want to spend over $1000 on audio gear for this car, and the external remote is huge.

What stereo unit do you have installed there? I really want to do this in my car, but I do not want to give up my hands-free calling so I need a stereo unit that has that (and I will need to be able to run the call button to a new area for use).
Great work so far!

I was going to do this but the inability to run audio out of the usb is killer. I'll have to wait for the next nexus device

Latest updates

Latest Build Video:

Head Unit Used:
JVC Regular KD-X80BT

Hands free works very well with supplied microphone.
Bluetooth on headunit also works well. having the remote mounted externally is a must however to accept phone calls, switch songs via BT, volume and switch EQ.

The most recent challenge I have is now, realizing this tablet needs more than 2A to charge it. Which means you need a power inverter to charge it properly.

So in my case I am still within the $450 dollar budget but its been an annoying process figuring out the bugs.

That would be much better.

Well, after the new power source is run in the glovebox you can quickly plug the tablet directly into the laptop from the cable in the glovebox to update copy etc.

I finished my ELA version for Android. Over the next year I am going to work with developers to commercialize a release.

Here is a quick screen screen shot of the final interface for the FR-S.
Really awesome man. I'm particularly impressed with your software. Sorry not reading all the threads, but is it available for trail somewhere? I don't find it on Google play store.

Yes it's USB for power and Aux for sound 3.5mm.
The head unit has two USB ports, one being used for BT adapter, the other free to run to the bottom USB port for flash drives.

The tablet USB now run to the power inverter in the glove box.

great DIY man, the only 2 things I may do differently: a different tablet with data connection (future proof) and a flush cover so that the tablet is not visible to strangers when the car is in park. I'd hate it if morons break my windows to steal the tablet.

Cant you use the USB to just power on the tablet so that you dont need to use the glove box power? split the rear USB using a USB 2.0 splitter for bluetooth and lower USB port then the front be used for the tablet.

also instead of using an inverter cant you use a 2.1 amp USB mini charger?
