To the GT drivers do u find keeping track of your speed dangerous. I love my GT but I find it more dangerous to try to look at speedometer and keeping an eye on the road.

I hope they do a recall due to the dangerous nature of its placement. Looking for a work around.

I haven't had any trouble in the 86 yet. I've had it since release day essentially, driven it heaps, and the most I've had was today when I was in a rush to where I was going, accelerated hard onto the freeway and was defiantly over the limit, when I noticed a cop car behind me. All he did was pull up next to me on the freeway, honk the horn, give a little disappointed shake of the head and continued on his way :p. I count myself lucky haha.

I know the feeling, I kept worrying when I test drove it and kept glancing down too much.

It's definaltey not dangerous, it's a sports car and it has a sports car speedo. Be glad it's a slower car so you can get used to it without too much worry. You will find a similar speedo in many faster cars with alot more power.

Just drive your car more. You should get used to the speedo and it's placement or just get used to the feel of certain speeds so you won't even have to look at your speedo.

Not even a little bit. The speedo is really easy to read. But you should be able to judge your speed either by feel or by the tacho anyway.

alright, well i dodged a bullet a few weeks back, I was coming home from the gym and turned left at a roundabout that leads to a long quite straight in an industrial area. At the roundabout, there was a small car in front of me that was slowing to 45, then up to 55, then slow then appeared to pull to the side. I am not the most patient of people so i planted it past the car in second gear, hit the redline, then into third and backed off.

About 200m further i turned right down a quiet street past mcdonalds (brisbane drivers will know where this is) ... then Flasing lights!

Cop pulls up and says, do you know why we pulled you over, passing an undercover cop car, not smart mate!. I had no idea, there were 3 cops in the car, and one another breathalyzed me. They told me they had a speed calibrated radar in the car and also the turn i made was before a keep left sign so therefore a dual carriageway. A large fine and huge chuck of points assued.

The third cop got out of the car as the first one wanted to check the speed where i passed them and the dual carriageway signange. He asked about what the car was, i replied "it's an 86" he says... but it looks brand new *facepalm*.

I explained i thought thye were an older driver and i was frustrated and they responded with, well we were just gong the speed limit... actually it was patrol speed. The first cop starts a lecture and advises me that maybe i should sell the car. He says, you appear to be a nice guy and your last fine was 2007.... have a nice night.

My girlfriends place was around the corner and i walked in and asked for a double scotch !

SO most of the trouble seems to be Sydney. I see so few 86's on the road in Melbourne probably not a big deal down here.

Haven’t been pulled over once. I have only had it just over two weeks and I have done just under 2000km, but I drive it everywhere. And cops are pretty bad in my area. I figure as long as I am not doing anything stupid they have no reason to pull me over, and if I get pulled over and I am behaving, I won’t get a fine anyway.

And Kamal, no problem at all with the speedo. It is very easy to read, and I can judge my speed reasonably well anyway. I don’t consider it unsafe at all. It wouldn’t pass ADR if it was.

went down to the snow over the weekend (perisher) and went to Jindy on the saturday to have a bit of a rage in Banjo's (local pub/night spot).

left at about 1-30am, noone on the road.. take off nice and easy and before i'd gotten 200m down the road; red & blue lights in the mirror (sneaky b@$tards must have been hiding watching for people leaving the pub.)

pull over and a rather attractive female officer comes over, quite friendly, chatted her up abit and she was asking me heaps of questions about the car before finally "random" breath testing me.

all clear and told me to have fun in it and enjoy my night. love this car
