Found Some JDM Toyota Part Numbers and Prices

I was looking around for something else and found these:

Part No.
NO1 SU003-01050 fuel tank protector
NO2 SU003-01051 fuel tank protector
RR R SU003-01380 Undercover
RR L SU003-01381 Undercover

omitted bolts, nuts, clips Because of the large number. A total of about 17 000 yen price.

I think these are all of the parts to the panels they don't install on our USDM cars...

No, the cardboard would eventually get wet and start falling apart. And then become a fire hazard if any got hung up on the exhaust.

Even if you only drove it on dry days, I don't think cardboard would hold up too well just against the constant beating of the turbulent air blowing under the car at freeway speeds.

It really, really needs to be the factory panels, or custom pieces made out of a low flammability plastic or aluminum.

awesome find. now if someone can set up a group buy for these. even if there was no aero advantage, it'd be nice to cover the underbody to prevent potential rusting.

How did I miss this most interesting thread? A couple of these have come up lately that I missed.

Not necessarily dead weight if there's benefit to the cost. But I might lower my car and it'd be painful having hundreds of dollars of underbody panels get scraped/dented up by unforgiving dips/bumps in the road.
Considering aerodynamics is all about shaving that 1 point(0.001) and that's almost 20 points from .29->.27, I'd say that's a little optimistic.

0.01 is a huge improvement from a manufacturing standpoint. I recall an article that FORD valued a 1% improvement in fuel economy at close to $400 per vehicle. I don't know how much manufacturers value that 1% now but it's probably far greater than that.

Chloroplast is good too, so long as it's not exposed to very high temperatures. Another thing to consider is that underbody paneling will probably be damaged/abused in the wild west that is American roads. Paint it black and no one will even notice it. If it's cheap then you won't miss it when it inevitably rips apart on a squirrel or a rock.

here are the numbers to back it up.

spoiler + underbody = 0.27cd. the video mentions 0.27cd.

spoiler only = 0.28cd

no spoiler, no underbody = 0.29cd
