The intake manifold is a very nice piece... and it was fully coated with oil on the inside as can be seen in this photo. You can see the oil on the mating surface on the inside of the seal.

Not to thread jack but that rubber like gasket sealer on the timing chain cover looks like it is applied in a slightly uncontrolled manner. I can imagine that stuff breaking off and plugging small oil passages. Could be the cause of the variable timing CEL issue?

No, that shit is serious!! you can remove the bolts from that cover and drive the car... took a long time to pry that cover off without damaging it.

How in your opinion does the motor look internal wise? Does it seem solid, overbuilt or just adequate for the power it has. Does that make sense?
