Yea... I parked in the back at Wal-Mart. At least 8 spaces around me completely open. Was only inside Wal-Mart for 10-15 minutes. Come back out and there's a white Cobalt parked next to me (It's funny because I just traded in a Cobalt).

I usually try and find an end spot and park right up against the curb. I have also found that when they are laying out the lines in the parking lot, they usually use the end spot for the 'slop' so they are sometimes a foot or two wider.

Sometimes it's easier to figure out where "not" to park than it is where to park. If I have to park in a heavily congested area I will desperately try to select a parking spot that is not next to some piece of junk.

i usually like to park where i can see my car. if that's not possible, i try to protect as much as possible (at the school i went, there was a spot too small for most cars, but i could fit the mini. one side was a curb, the other had a pillar, so everyone would be atleast 2 feet away from me)

This, and i generally find some way to have a curb or non-car next to me. Parking solo I found other people always pull up next to me to get a look

Or a spot that is too tight. I can't tell you how many times I have not parked in a spot because both cars on either side were right next to the damn line.

When at the supermarket, I like to NOT park by curbs since people tend to just prop their carts up there. Even if they're not likely to move anywhere, often they're still sticking out enough where I worry about clearance when backing out. Even worse by "striped areas" (like next to handicapped spots) since there tend to just be totally loose carts ready to roll into you. My favorite spots are next to the designated cart "wrangler"/return thing since I'm protected to one side and any nearby carts are likely to be placed in the cart return instead of loose.

I usually park around the middle. Away from the 'center mass' of cars closest to the entrance but not too far out to really stick out. I usually find a nice car also, usually a new audi/bmw/merc or something if I can find one. My FR-S is a daily driver, so stuff like this will eventually happen but nothing too crazy and protective and you can only do so much.

I always park against a curb or wall, but then often find something like this when I return:

I try to park next to the most expensive car I can find. The key is to find someone who is more worried about door dings on his car than you are about your car.

I actually don't mind parking next to mini vans, because they have at least one sliding door, so its one less door that could swing out and hit you, just park on the passenger side, as even soccer moms tend to load their kids from the driver's side.

I always try to park next to expansive cars, hopefully they know better than to open there door up into another car... and yes avoid suv's and minivans.
