Still no chirping for me. I use either Chevron or Shell gas.

I opened a case with SOA, they are aware of the issue, they were polite but very ambiguous as far as a resolution goes. I gave the district rep a list of issues and conveyed that this was never divulged prior to delivery of the car. They asked for time to contact the dealer to inform them of how SOA would resolve it. So now I play the waiting game.

I've tried the low ash 2-Cycle oil in the tank. Definitely quiets the noise, but it's still there when you are at idle or in a quiet enough area. My personal verdict: Helps but not the perfect solution. Will try ethanol free next and report back. Anyone have any word or rumors about the new injectors or if that's even really happening?

No TSB at the moment, but there's a complaint filed recently: Make : SCION Model : FR-S Year : 2013 Manufacturer : TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION Crash : No Fire : No Number of Injuries: 0 ODI ID Number : 10474058 Number of Deaths: 0 Date of Failure: August 8, 2012 VIN : JF1ZNAA18D1... Component: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL Summary: MY NEW CAR HAS BEEN IN AND OUT OF THE SHOP FOR THE PAST MONTH (4 TIMES). THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON AND THE DEALER DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO FIX IT. THE CAR DOES NOT ALSO SEEM TO BE ABLE TO HOLD AN IDLE SPEED. WHEN MY FOOT HAS THE CLUTCH COMPLETELY DEPRESSED AND MY OTHER FOOT ON THE BRAKE, THE ENGINE IDLE JUST GOES FROM 500 TO 1000 AND BACK DOWN TO 500 AND THE CAR SHUDDERS AND ALMOST STALLS. THERE SEEMS TO BE OTHER SCION OWNERS OF THIS NEW CAR THAT ARE HAVING THE EXACT SAME ISSUE (THERE ARE INTERNET POST ON WEB FORUMS DATING BACK TO JUNE 2012) AND TOYOTA/SCION DOES NOT ACT LIKE THEY ARE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AT ALL. I AM CONCERNED THAT THE CAR IS GOING TO STALL OR THE ENGINE SURGE WHEN I AM DRIVING IT. THE CAR IS AT A SCION DEALER FOR THE 4 TIME AND I WAS GIVEN NO ETA ON WHEN THE CAR MIGHT BE REPAIRED. |

^^The idle issue appears to be quite a bit more serious than the chirp issue, and I am not aware that Toyota has begun to address this in the same way that I am aware that TSBs for the chirp issue seem to be on the way.
Has anyone heard of a fix or a TSB from Toyota about the idle issue? (If it's already been posted, sorry for the repeat.) |

Mine is chirping now more than when I had 10% ethanol gas in it. It's not BAD but it's more noticeable after driving for a while. I changed my oil to RP, might have something to do with it, but it's also been cooler out the last few days.

I will definitely agree, almost 4k miles and my chirping is worse now than at 1-2k.
You guys are having a much different experience than i am with SOA. I tell them Ithat I am upset the car didn't make the noise when i bought it and they send me an arbitration form. Maybe i should pursue it and see if i can get them to do anything... |

Just started chirping after I filled up with 93 Octane with some Ethanol and... other stuff... Not sure what the dealer filled it up with, but before my filling, it was fine.
Maybe it IS fuel related... |

Hey guys,
I've said it before and I'll say it again lol. Take the car to the dealer. I took mine in and found out its the fuel pump. Replaced the fuel pump with a new one and now the noise is gone ![]() No more trying to find gas that cancels out the noise. Quick fix guys. |
