I'm due to change my oil tomorrow. Car's done 5.5k so far.
Using Toyota 0W-20 Engine oil(from Prosser Toyota) and Subaru 1520*** Oil Filter(from Vic Park Subaru). Btw, what price is everyone paying for oil and filter?? The Babe working in parts at Prosser Maddington gave me a discount for 2x 4L ones at around $136 for both, the filter was $17 at Subaru. |

Changing oil is ridiculously easy in this car. You can change oil as many times as you want without voiding warranty so long as you use manufactures grade oil or better. And the first 1000 km is definitely just an inspection. First service is NOT free...

i asked for the oil to be done during the inspection. the dealership called me back and said the oil is a specially developed one for the 86 and costs $180 odd dollars for 4.x litres and as the car takes 5.x litres, I will need two of them plus labour charges. I backed out of doing it.
Is this true? |

He's telling porky pies. I got various prices from a couple dealerships around Perth.
1x 4L is ~$88 at Big Rock Toyota(I didn't ask about how much two were) 1x 4L is $81.25 @ Prosser Maddington, 2x 4L cost me $136.35(with discount) 1x $L is ~$72 @ City Toyota, 2x 4L is $136.00 I went to Big Rock first, and asked them if they took 0W-20 oil.. the girl asked what kind of car is it going into, I told them it was the new Toyota86 the guy next to her goes, oh you can use 5W-40(not 100% sure on what specs it was, but it *wasn't* 0W-20), we usually use that for servicing. So I think I will be wary when I get my first interval inspection. I might request that they just supply me the 2x 4L tins and I'll do the oil change myself, that way I *know* the proper oil is going into it. ** Oh yeah forgot to add. I installed my Fumoto Valve(F108N) last night, so oil changes should be quite easy! Attached a 25cm hose to the end of it for easy draining. The valve end is slightly longer though(it protudes out about 5-7mm past the bash plate), so I'll most probably change to the F108S the next oil change(~4,500km away).

i personally can't be bothered with 4L bottles. Subaru 5.5L bottle is the way to go.
but i wonder how this effect the cap price servicing if i bring my old oil and filter. definitely don't want the stealer putting anything other than the correct 0w20 oil. |
