First Engine Oil change, DIY or Service?

My Engine oil sticker on my window says due in "1 MONTH" for first oil change.

I'm assuming it's recommended to change from dealership but it's also optional if you know what to do yourself, right?

I've only done 290km. LOL!

I did my own oil change at 1k. Dealer told me my first service is 15k or 6 months.
Got the oil from a Subbie dealership.

Yea just let them do it during the 1 month service. After that, I like to change the oil myself every 3 months or so along with the oil filter.

not sure if free, the dealer didn't tell me anything about servicing. I do know however it's capped pricing for all Toyota vehicles at $160 (I last heard).

The free 1st month thing is a check up only. the dealer won't change oil for you. not sure if they will do it for free if you request.

personally i only done 1200km. i will get my oil changed around 2500km by my mechanic.

first service is always free, and you can take it to any service center

edit, i say service, but its like nardi says, its a checkup.
I thought they changed the oil too though?

nop. if you look at your service book, the first month check up is not actually part of the service schedule. there is a voucher for you to claim this free check up within the first month of delivery. first service is 9mth/10000km i think.

They check the nuts & bolts are tight & top up the oil of it's dropped. Piece of mind/3000km service (as well call it in the industry)

I've done 7000km and serviced twice with Royal Purple oil and HKS filters. I took it in for the complimentary checkup and they oiled joints in the car and gave it a good wash. A+

As said, first 'service' is actually just an inspection. They will probably charge if you want them to change the oil/filter. The logbook actually doesn't specify that you need to change oil at 1,000ks although many do, after the break in period.

What I want to know is, will changing the oil/filter yourself void the warranty/capped service plan?

I can't see any reason why it would. Changing your own oil is the simplest thing in the world. As long as you remember to screw everything back on, there's not a lot of damage you can do.

True, unless someone puts the wrong oil in, say Diesel engine oil or something.

I mean, if you use an non 'genuine Toyota' (any aftermarket) oil filter for example, then something screws up, what's stopping them from blaming the oil filter for the problem :P
