Temp oil catch device. AOS coming soon
So I was seeing Crawford take apart a fa20 with 5,000 miles and I saw how dirty the combustion chamber and pistons were. So I decided to create a temporary solution to oil being pulled into the engine through the PCV.
I will check it in a few weeks to see if it's collecting oil and keeping it out. I report back progress ::: disclaimer ::: I do not recommend this mod to anyone. Which is why I didn't make this a DIY. This is soley for purposes I still don't understand. Good day and dont do this to your car!

I used one of those on my turbo RX-8. It seemed to work well at catching oil. It just doesn't have a lot of capacity.

OP clearly goes for innovation instead of waiting for other people to create it. for OP having the balls to try out new stuff and post it for all of our benefit.

Perhaps you should follow the leaders and innovators concept, and show me what you have under your hood, and I will show you mine. I give op credit for balls, but it represents an over all inexperience in race or track prepping a car. benefit? therein lies the question The OP would benefit seeking a remedy for this temporary solution before it fails and becomes a vacuum leak or an oil spill on the track. I advise others against this sort of pseudo automotive hackery, YMMV |

I agree with the explanation completely. However, I also agree that the last line (as another poster has pointed out) could have been left out, its inflammatory and non-productive. Its just a dig, plain and simple. Eric G |

Agreed, I am harsh often too blunt direct and critical. Probably proud of these qualities, too. Interweb just amplifies that.
I think its a safety issue, not trying to mock anybody...just dont wanna have folks think they too should be implementing this solution, which is VERY temporary I should hope Somethings are best kept your own dirty lil secret, this mod is one of those take it easy ladies, post a picture of an ugly mod, and I'm RIGHT HERE , your friendly forum troll, k? |

Fair enough! I am open to any and all comments.
I don't track or race my car by any means. I just want a VERY cheap and quick albeit solution. If it gets full or starts to melt after a few days of use then it comes out. Not looking for looks on this mod. It looks like a blackhead on a teenagers face, I know. I'm checking it after every drive. I'll pay attention to the concerns of you guys on hear. Plus I added a little disclaimer in my OP. cheers!

I just spent the weekend at the race track with no catch can, rather than sitting in front of the computer debating the merits of a catch can.
I had more fun than y'all. The home depot solution is a good one to monitor the problem. When it doesn't fill with oil after 3 weeks I suppose it won't seem so undersized. That separator can probably flow 150 cam at 90 psi, so it won't have a problem with a little flow under engine vacuum. Oh yeah, my car didn't blow up at the track, and the dipstick didn't show any significant oil loss. Scott |
