here is the definition from ehow

http://www.ehow.com/facts_5958001_st...ed-wheels.html

Definition

  • "Staggering" is the act of using different sized wheels and/or tires on either end or either side of a vehicle.
  • Many performance vehicles use wider tires on the drive axle for increased acceleration. Top Fuel dragsters are one extreme example of this application.

Advantages of a square setup is less understeer and the ability to rotate your tires for better wear and increased life. Go with a nice set of grippy 245s on all corners and you should have all the grip you will need out back.
