I wanted an MR2 or S2000 with back seats and a bigger trunk for my DD.. the FR-S/BRZ was the perfect answer!

Oh and I've always wanted a hardtop, coupe, S2000 or MX5. This answered the call very nicely.

TBH I was looking at a Hyundai Veloster Turbo and hadn't considered an 86 because I thought price was going to a big issue.
I then took part in an online survey about the 86, saw that the price was at least going to be comparable and fell in love with it during a test drive.
Initially the wife was not 100% convinced it was going to family friendly enough, even though there are only 3 of us, my boy is almost 16 and wants as little to do with us as possible.
She relented fairly quickly when it came down to her getting a new SUV (Captiva) thrown in to the bargain.
Now that I have the car and she has driven it a couple of times, her first comment was "I wish I'd got one now too."
My response was "There's no way I'm driving a Captiva!"

Y did u get her a captiva.

When I was looking for a car for my wife, I wanted something that I wanted to drive too.

Aurion is not the best car, but it's fast and smooth to drive. Wheels and dark tints make it feel/look better. (wheels have been guttered hard though)

That's what she wanted, priced right and not something I'm going to drive 99.9% of the time. She does do a bit of driving with her work and needs to transport some stuff and that driving is only going to increase in the next 18 months so I'm happy if she is happy.

Basically bought an 86 because the car is made for me, it's been a long time coming.

Had a series 2 Rx7 as an 18 years old, which is now 18 years ago. Had to sell it after a few years as because I was a student couldn't really afford the petrol and comprehensive insurance, but vowed I'd get a sports car one day.

Put up with lots of different cars inc personal and company, was stuck with a mirage for years as I saved for my sports car.

Got to that point of affording something half decent 3 years ago. Wanted to buy a 2 year old Mx5, not because it was a convertible, but because they handle and have a brilliant gear box. My wife freaked as we'd just had a baby. So backed out and bought a mini cooper new, thought it was a good compromise as they handle great and have a great gearbox and I could out a baby seat in the back.

Again the wife freaked out, wouldn't talk to me for a few weeks etc etc.

6 months later we found out we were having twins. 3 kids under 2 meant I had no choice but to sell the mini to buy my wife a big station wagon, wide enough to fit 3 child seats. I was stuck with her Mazda 3

Again vowed I would eventually get 'my' car.

Was planning to do it next year or in 2014. Had followed the 86 development. Expected a driveway price of 45k. The day they announced 29990 pre drive away I decided to make it happen now. A cheap real brand new sports car with Toyota/Subaru economy and reliability was just too good not to pursue.

I now have my dream car. Wife not happy, but I finally feel I have what I've longed for since I sold the Rx7 many years ago.

I saw in Wheels about 2-3 years ago that Toyota had a new petrol head CEO at the helm who was designing a sports coupe that would be in the $20k-$30k range...when I saw that I said to myself if this ever comes true I will definitely be checking that out. Then come December last year I saw that it had been released at the Tokyo Motor Show and from there I was sold and placed the order as soon as I knew I could in March.
Wasn't planning on buying a new car until this bit of magic came along. Had thought about what I would buy if I was to sell my darling 06 manual Honda Euro but nothing stood out and I love that car. The Euro has now been sold to my brother in law (to keep her in the family) and just a couple of weeks away now from owning my dream car.
So freaking excited!!!

I had no idea about the 86 before the start of the year, my plan was to purchase the best E46 M3 I could afford at the end of the year but decided I didn't want to get into such a commitment at this stage.

I had a look at all the cars in the price range, as it is a daily I rulled out the Exige as that was my next best bet.

If the car isn't delivered by march next year I'll go Lotus/M3

There was a part of a press release that had how you fit 4 wheels and a jack into them for track days that got my interest. The order was placed the day after I saw one in real life, looked a lot better in the flesh than expected.

I fell in love with the concept when it was released.. I always thought it was too good to be within my budget. Then Gran Turismo 5 came with the ft86 concept in it and I fell in love all over again.

My requirements for a new car was simply something comfortable for peak hour traffic and also very agile and zippy when I wanted to have some fun. Not to mention pretty damn sexy as well. The 86 passes those tests and I've got no regrets whatsoever. So happy with it and definitely worth the wait

There is nothing else for sale in this country that matches that description.
