Not sure if it was previously mentioned but Randy Pobst picked the BRZ as his second place choice overall. That's impressive considering his field of expertise and the caliber of competing cars.

If it were a 3 ft race, it looks like the BRZ might have pulled 2nd!

Love what Motor Trend did with the humor of the BRZ being in a drag race. Epic orchestra music in the background during the race, then cuts to silence from the BRZ's perspective way in the back. Then at the end where they all cross the line and we're waiting... waiting... waiting... BRZ comes in in style with some fun drifting reminding us what it's really about.

I think I disrupted some coworkers with my laughter. Loved it and not at all offended since the BRZ should not be in a drag race (at least not with this calliber of competition).

I wish everyone could admit that. There's a similar topic about this on Nasioc with a separate thread about the drag race video, and one poster (who is often contradictory while saying that any transmission other than a manual robs a car of its fun factor), and he kept defending the BRZ in the drag race even though no one was really bashing it, while also saying that a 2.5-second difference between the next car is insignificant, which definitely isn't the case when you're talking about quarter-mile times.

Then, in the same thread, he lashed out at people and said that he thought everyone was "deeper" than just caring about "one metric," even though the thread was about a drag race.

If anyone's interested in hearing the drag race without any music, just the cars:

Monica's a babe, but the blonde hair isn't working for her. She needs to be a redhead. I'm just saying....

If you're talking about the broad in the MT video, she needs to cover up that barb wire tattoo or whatever it was.

It just dawned on me... the 911, MBenz, and GT-R all have automated manual or automatic transmissions. In everyday driving situations, to me, that leaves a lot to be desired. It also leaves the BRZ as the #1 car with a traditional manual gearbox!

Well, the 911 is still available with a manual, and chances are, it still wouldve finished first if they used that one instead of the PDK-equipped model.

so guys, pdk, dual clutch etc, are essentially automatics right? i mean they have paddle shifters but they are designed to shift quicker than a manual gearbox, correct?

Nope. Not an automatic as we know them in Cadillacs and Lexuses.

Think of them as Manuals with electronically controlled clutches. There are single clutch sequential and dual clutch versions. They shift incredibly fast (milliseconds) and are very efficient because there is essentially no loss of power with shifting.

A DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission) has, as you would expect from the name, 2 clutches, one for odd gears, one for even ones. Let's say the car is in 3rd and accelerating, the computer already has 4th selected and in line ready to go. When you hit the shift paddle, the clutch for the odd gears releases and the clutch for the even gears engages, and now 8 milliseconds later you have shifted up a gear in less than the blink of an eye.

Yes, these days there are some very quick shifting Automatics (Lexus ISF, Cadillac CTS-V) but they still aren't as fast as DCTs.
