with the small ground clearance, you have to be concerned
about your car being "lifted" up off the road by snow packing underneath with snow falls over 5".of course when this happens, you are '"done" call a hook! j.t. |

It will be interesting to hear stories of this car in the snow - and I'm sure countless stories of spins and of people driving through snow on the stock summer Primacy's.
As for weight in the rear - I've heard conflicting stories. With my old car and old pickup, there was like a 70/30 F/R weight distribution, so you needed 100 lb in the trunk to help. People with 50/50 BMWs and Miatas claim no need to put weight in the trunk, and that just causes the car to spin more (more weight in motion side to side). |

Additional weight over the drive wheels will certainly help.

I definitely plan to get a set of winter tires for Chicagoland. I'm VERY curious to see how it handles in snow, slush, and ice.
From 2006-08 I drove a 6MT IS250 in Iowa winters on factory all season tires. The balance on that car I believe was right about 57/43 front/rear. After it snowed the first winter I had it I ended up putting two 75lb sand bags in the trunk, wedged all the way up right behind the rear seat and secured with straps to keep the weight planted over the rear wheels and to prevent shifting. That car was a TANK in the snow, never ever once got stuck or worried about traction. But that car was over 600 lbs heavier even before I added the sand bags. I'm hoping that just snow tires will suffice for the FR-S, otherwise I might put a single sand bag over the rear tires to see how that works. In any event, I imagine our cars will be wicked fun in the snow! |

i cant decide between performance snow or studless snow/ice tires. learning towards the performance snow ones, just worried they wont be much better then all season. ive used the studless the last 4 or 5 and great while snowing they suck the rest of the time.

I have ContiWinterContact TS810 S (the performance Winter/snow tires) that I used on the tC for the past three years that worked wonderfully. I plan on using them on the FR-S as well.
