I like RX8s, but how much did it cost to buy that 1 second benchracer advantage?
Since both cars were/are new platforms, let's discuss the stock versions with MSRP.
Moreover, how's the practicality issue for daily driving?
Costs of ownership? How's that gas mileage? Oil consumption? Let's face it: Wonderful as the rotary engine is, it isn't particularly good on power, fuel consumption or reliability.
At least I assume you aren't going to join the chorus of "underpowered" - given that the Renesis was eventually downgraded from an initial claimed 250hp to about 210hp...

I note your posted pic of the RX-8 doesn't look like a stock model (I don't consider the Mazda Speed or Spirit R versions to be fair comparisons, just as you wouldn't consider the 5 Axis models in your "looks" comparisons).

For the record, my 10-yr old 7-gen Celica still looks great - so I'd take it as a compliment. And if you think the tC and FR-S look similar (aside from having 2 doors, a trunk, and 4 wheels), may I suggest ClearlyContacts.ca for a free pair of glasses.

Tires.

I'm not here to poop on the R8. It's looks are subjective. I don't like it at all but my wife did (which could both be accounted for by the phallic front end...). It was great-handling vehicle, but it's also almost $10k more than the FR-S in its top trim.

Not really a performance problem since you'd be keeping the revs up in spirited driving, but I don't like the around-town power delivery of the Renesis.

Since I'm not a big fan of excessive buttons, I actually prefer the interior of the FR-S. (But I'm sure the RX-8 offers more features).

I wish Scion would release a 'performance' version of the FR-S. The only thing they need to change is the tires, just so we don't sound like the benchracing buttholes who shout that X car could beat Y car with only $$$$ in mods. They could send them out to the journalists and we could get a decent representation of the car's abilities in comparison tests.

Striking resemblance??? WTF????

If you're going this route, might as well show how the FR-S has a "striking resemblance (WTF????)" with uhm... i dunno... a Pontiac Aztek!

You just lost the very little credibility you have with that comparison! Now everything that comes from you is BS...

The door handles are similar.

Of course, there is no similarity in any other styling element.

Why the fvck am I arguing with a troll?

I'm done.

it is underpowered, but this car isn't for the person looking to go super fast in a straight line and live their fast and furious vin diesel/paul walker fantasies. Real talk, this car is like what buell was to motorcycles. You don't buy it for power, you buy it for the driving experience. Its a blast to drive even going 35-45, and even better as the speed increases!! I could've easily bought a v6 mustang or a genesis coupe, but this car stood out the most as far as design, specs, everything.

there is literally, no new car in the fr-s price range that gives the same performance. Rx8 was tossable, but heavier, and rotaries suck unless you're some type of wankel scientist and love getting oil changes every week.

Not really, its been since 1998 since a car even remotely similar to the FR-S has been sold in the USA (2-door rwd coup <3k lbs.) So I don't see how we can compare the FR-S/BRZ to anything made since 1998, honestly anything after that is apples to oranges.

Odds are the twins will be a flop just lke the S14 Nissan. There just isn't a mass market for a small rwd sports coupe. These twins are popular right now for two reasons: the styling is exceptional and the auto enthusiasts in the press. But it will be short lived, these aren't the next EG Civic.

Most people who want a 2 door coupe want a heavy over powered pony car with a big backseat. People who want a sports car want a Miata.

The key to the Miata's success has been lightweight, double wishbone handling and simplicity. It doesn't cost an arm and a leg to work on a Miata, its affordable to own.

The value is there with the twins, the suspension is well done, the 6 speed stick is very very nice, and we get a torsen LSD on the right wheels. And there are still a few of us who want a sports car with a roof.

It has plenty of power for me. Affordable power can be a double edged sword, FI (even factory) can kill long term reliability and re-sale value. And double insurance rates.

idk why its this epic gap

Challenger r/t manual
weight:4082
Cost:$29,895.00

Frs
Cost:$24,995
Weight:2,760
Difference
Weight:1,322.00
cost difference:$4,940.00

In the Frs benefits that's nearly 5k and upgrades that can be applied to performance...which will aid and completing against a Challenger(don't forget the 1300 lb difference). Idk if you have checked out the jdm option magazine...where Drift king beat a skyline via AE86 in touge...Skyline is wayyy better than a challenger...so idk apples to oranges, banana's to turtles. The Frs is a great platform, to build on .In regards to domestics really all they do is put big ass motors in them, suspension isn't really looked at(corvette excluded). I know I have domestics. Current car is a 83' cutlass w/ 68 olds 350 pushing a minimum of 300hp.

Check out this video
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_7XPQqc8Ak...its[/ame]

a 66 corvette vs a 1969 hurst olds...

Hurst/Olds came standard with a 365-horsepower 455 Rocket V8, or an optional 370 horsepower
Weight:3,515
Motor:365-370

weight:3,015lbs

The weight difference is the main thing that made the vette win, which is only 500lbs. So hands down 5 k in upgrades on a frs will put the smack down on a Challenger if we look at I spend as much money on my car as you spent on yours out the box...

This subject regarding "underpowered" personal cars comes up in any forum. I like to troll the ferrari forums because my dream is an F430 Coupe manuel. The ferrari owners (360, F430) know that their car is slower than the 911 turbos, GTR, Z06, etc ..... but it is the "passion" of owning a "cool" car that has nothing to do with horsepower. Add another 20-30 HP to the twins ... and the competition will add more. It never ends ... and there will ALWAYS be a faster car ... regardless.
