17=passenger car
18=sports car.

But we'll see!
Hm... idk, 17's are nice size for this hp. Even S2k had 17's. To be honest, 175~210hp & 2350~2800lbs, I think 16x7.5 w front: 205/50/16 rear:215/45/16 is way good enough. Upgrade em w 17x7~8 w 215/45/17 & 245/40/17.

18" tires are just overpirce for underpower car.

dang. if the production car ends up looking like the mkII instead of the frs, i'm gonna be freakin sad.

maybe they'll jus come out with the frs here, and give the mkII to everyone else (i'd def be okay with that, haha, though it's unlikely)

I think the tC is stock with 18"s, though. FR-S will be same or bigger I think, pending on how they position/price it. But it will likely be the top. So they will give it more of everything. Not always a good thing...

18's would look nice, but they might come it a sport pack (like the way the 370Z has bigger rims on the sport package than the base model). I'd be fine with 17's though.

I agree 17s are what Im hoping for, theyll fit most BBKs, still keep tire prices reasonable, and are lighter. Also I dont think I would like the look of 18s on a small light car like this.

aren't 18's cheaper / have more variety? I thought the rule of thumb was even #'s are generally better...

i think 18s are good size looks wise and you can get wider tires...

anyways, does anyone else think this "mule" looks pretty much like a hyundai genesis coupe with GTR mirrors? I was actually shocked to see the similarities. The only thing I like on the mule that they kept from the 2nd concept is the roof dent. I wish it looks more like the Scion FRS concept or at least have a special edition / package you can buy from 5 Axis.

S2000 came with 16 inch...and i'm sure you already knew this..

therefore..looking from the pics now of the FRS...it looks like we can fit 16in on this car as well

Plus the Corvette is a proper sports car with credentials, racing history, and a good reputation. It actually gets "good" FE too. Although it is pretty expensive and doesn't have a "nice" interior. The Corvette is iconic and one of the very few sports cars that are still successful after being introduced in the 60's. Plus if you compare it to the average v8 musclecar or even the modest Mustang it's a light car despite the v8!
I agree - some of the newer members have been great people - and i encourage more people to join in, get the car and have some nice discussions when its actually out

Yeah it's about the pinnacle of what you guys have at the moment - but i didnt say corvette - when people say stuff like "omg this car is ugly, im going to buy a camaro" i dont understand why they were considering it in the first place if it obviously doesent have 300 brake and do an 11s 1/4 mile, that isnt what its about

the enkei's are probably on this test mule because:
  1. the platform is using subaru's hubs and running gear which is different to toyota's - offset, bore etc
  2. if they put anything but alloys that we hadnt already seen on a production car then we would all jump to conclusions that whatever they chose would go onto the production car and subsequently have more people saying "omg i hate those wheels, im getting XXX car instead"

if you compare the weight of a 17 in and 18 in alloy yeah the 18 will be heavier

but if you put tyres on them both then the 17 will be heavier

the rubber is the heaviest part of wheels, 17's require more rubber to keep the outer diameter of the wheel consistent to an 18, unless you lower the tyres profile, but then you have speedo inaccuracy issues

saying this, id still prefer 17's - and then get lower profile tyres for my second set when the stock ones wear out - maybe even get some 17's straight away when the car comes out with a lower profile side wall

edit: sorry for the double post - few replies while i was typing my previous!

Looks ugly with the wraps on. Even with them you can get an idea of how the body looks, and it doesn't seem very good.
