I need a suggestion for a helmet for AutoX

I will be AutoX the first time ever and I've heard a helmet is required.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to brand/style?

Thankyou

See if you can find a local vendor and try on the helmets. Remember they must be SA2010 not DOT or SA2005.

Here is a decent read for you http://www.soloracer.com/helmettech.html

Hopefully there are some vendors on here that stock them

Great Advice Ricepuddin. Here's a tad more. I have two helmets. Full face for Road Course/Stock Car and an Open face for AutoCross. I went open face for the added peripheral vision. Depending on the lot you are set up in, things tend to wrap back on themselves at an autocross. I like the open face design in this scenario. The less I have in my peripheral the easier it is for me to get my eyes WAY out in front of the car where they belong.

Just my two cents. It works for me.

What's wrong with SA2005? I think SA2000 is still legal, no?

Nothing!

Also most AutoX should let you ran "M" rated helmet as well.

The rule book I looked through said 2010 only, or at least I thought it did. I could be wrong. I'll look it up when I get home

Get open face HJC (budget) or Arai (comfort) with a Snell rating sticker INSIDE, usually under the cheek padding. Expect to pay $70-260 depending on maker and whether 2005 or 2010, S (motorcycle) or M (motorsports). Check with your local AX organisation for loan helmets and post your needs to their "wanted" section.

I bought the HJC AR-10 II. It's SA2010 rated and it's full face.

Will full face helmets block my view in AutoX?

Depends on the group.

Most autocross groups allow M2005/M2010/SA2005 and SA2010. Some will allow M2000/SA2000 but that will continue to disappear.

DE groups will only allow SA2005/SA2010 and in many cases M2005/M2010.

Find a place to try the helmets on, each one has a different fit and your head won't be the same shape/size as everyone here...

SA is for autosports, M is for motorcycle and other motorsports.
