I looked at navigation unit internals at FCC web site (they have photos there). It uses Parrot hands free telephone module. Parrot arguably makes the best hands free systems in the world. I used one for 8 years in my previous car, and they still support it with firmware upgrades after all that time. So you can expect hands-free phone and Bluetooth audio features to be excellent in our stock unit.

The functionality of the radio is great. Great sound, connects to the phone well, finds satellites well (at least in mine it does.) The only thing people are hating on about this radio is the ergonomics of it all. That being said you are in a FR-S and I don't think people have bad mouthed the FR-S radio just the BeSpoke and the factor Nav.

I have the base in my FR-S, and it works decent for 80's Rock from my I-pod or CDs. Fader to front, and make sure you have the right car "type" selected. Radio does not seem to get quite as good sound for some reason. But then I am not a big car stereo nut, that is not the reason I get in my car, I save it for the home system. =]

Just as some insist on having more engine power or better handling, car audio is one more facet of the whole experience. The 86 is a great example of a car that does a lot of things extremely well. If however, someone wants an improvement, they seek to make a change. Just like the other areas (such as an ECU flash, resonator delete, springs or coil overs, etc), whatever it is, it may only take a small tweak to satisfy someone's needs, or a big investment. I don't quite consider myself a full blown audiophile, but I really love the sound of a clear, warm, and rich sound while I'm in the car. It improves the entire experience for me. It really doesn't help that I'm a chronic tinkerer; never satisfied to leave things well enough alone.
With any upgrade, some will say its unnecessary. Some are perfectly content with stock power, stock tires, stock ride height, etc. I personally think those people are lucky to be content with exactly what they have, whereas myself, I often have to convince myself something is just fine te way it is. |

I Like the stock audio in my BRZ just fine. I added an 8" sub on 25 Watts and it is quite good. I actually had to turn the gains way down with only 25 watts because in this car it really doesn't take much to get the job done. I wish the EQ was a bit more comprehensive, but the sound quality is quite good IMO. I will likely replace out all the stock speakers eventually, but I'm in no rush as the stock system is good.

Stock stereo system is average as other Scion models. It's not bad but I really need to upgrade it soon.

Honestly, it's a weak point in thr balance of the car for me. I'm a bit more of an audiophile then most, but the system lacks clarity, muddy base, and sound settings are just strange sounding to me. Overall, it's sub par.
I think their is substancial amount of room for upgrade, but not everyone is going to be able get as much bang for the buck as others. I have pieced together a head unit, amp, sub, front seprates, and rear woofers for about 2,000. To me this is more then worth it. To others its barely an upgrade worth while. Most of my 2 terabite audio library is high resolute FLAC files instead of MP3s.. that in itself sounds condierably different on an more audiophile built system to me. Others can't understand the point. To each their own.

Being audiophile too I do not like default settings at all. But I will try to play with equalizer and audio analyzer and try to make it bearable. I am satisfied with hands free features though. Voice recognition is acceptable too. I suspect that major improvement can be achieved by getting better speakers only. |

I wish there was a little more bass other then that no changes needed. Need a option that will not lower total trunk space.
