OK, the car has been out for a while- is the car practical?

Not really. There are some touches of practicality, like the backseat, but it really is barely a seat. As mentioned, the trunk is pretty big, and the seats fold down, so you can carry a decent amount back there, but it's not as easy to get things in/out like a hatchback.

It's not as wholly unpractical as a Lotus Elise, but it's honestly not all that much more practical than a Miata or an S2000.

ROFL! Boy, you really haven't see these cars have you? You are 100% going to have to get something else, sadly! (in reference to adult passengers)

Our beloved cars will not "really" accomodate small children in the rear! Realistically speaking from experience... If you had one 5 ft person up front and they scooted their seat unaturally forward, then another person of the same height could fit behind them. You sure as hell would not want to be involved in a crash with this set up! Good luck!

I love my FR-S, but for your needs, I would say look elsewhere. I would recommend checking out the VW GTI. Good luck!

Put the rear seats down and have your friends lay with their legs in the trunk, problem solved. Have your passenger reach out his window and hold the bikes with their wheels on the ground, so they roll along next to the car.

Perfectly practical.

Honestly I wouldn't suggest this car to anybody that is concerned about having more than one passenger or wants to really carry ANYTHING. Groceries, a few suitcases, or tires will fit in the back but anything that has any side more than maybe 12 inches is going to be very hard to fit in the car (moving boxes, etc.). The back seat access and the size of the trunk opening simply make it hard to squeeze things into the storage area.

I can fit 2 passengers just fine as long as they're not really tall and you're not traveling for hours...and a Yakima roof rack would be so sweet...

It would be tough to replace this though...

This is not the car for you. If you really care about getting more than two people around regularly than get a WRX.

I didn't explain myself clearly- of course, I would LOVE a purebred driver's car, thats why I'm here. I just need enough practicality that I'm not handicapping my other hobbies.

For getting two people to a given destination with extreme driving pleasure, yes. For what you're looking to do, no.

So get this car for the times when you are not going biking, and get a $2000 beater that can carry 4+ adults and the bikes for when you are going biking?

I mean, for me, 90% of my driving there's only either me, or me + adult, with a rare short trip giving a 3rd a ride somewhere. The other 10% of the time when I've got to carry 5+, or carry big items somewhere, or go camping - I got a $5,000 Honda Oddysey that does the job brilliantly and in comfort. It's not very sporty to drive at those times, but the honest truth is, you wouldn't be driving "spiritedly" in those situations anyways.

Sure, you can easily get a rack for the roof or a trailer-mount rack. That's the easy problem to solve. But you're still going to be faced with minimal rear seat room. Now if you're short and so are your passengers you might be able to get away with it for short drives. Or you could pick up a beater SUV. You can get them REALLY cheap nowadays.
